Everyone please read & drive carefully!

I rolled out of bed sooner than I would think on Sat. morning & went to the bank to get a money order to pay rent. That went just fine except for the lady behind the counter staring at my baseball cap attire...well, it's 10 a.m. on Sat...I'm sick, worked all week & just rolled outa bed...so...

I exit the bank & head to the light at the intersection. I am about to turn left, which is east. There is a lady coming towards me from the other side of the intersection (with the light) who's heading North. A big Chevy truck blows through the light heading west & t-bones her right as she's coming across towards me. It's only 10 a.m. & although awake, I am moving in slow gear. I can still hear the sound of the crash. I am dazed. I call 911...and wait. The little old lady in the little chevy (economy size like a dodge neon but a chevy) is ok but missing a front end. The people in the truck rushed over to her. It happened so fast I didn't realize that the truck could have bounced off her and hit me.

I am still pretty much bewildered by the whole accident. Like my boyfriend has told me, don't dart after the light changes as you never know who's not stopping for the red....

Everyone, please drive carefully, especially those of you on vacation, here in Florida...

I used to have a job that started at 2:30 in the morning. On my way to work one day I pulled out into the intersection after the light changed and I could see a car coming down the road and it wasn't slowing down like it should for the red light. I stopped in the intersection and it wizzed right through barely missing me. Had I not noticed it coming, I would have been t-boned. After she went by I made my turn, goign the same direction as her and stopped at the next light right beside her. I looked over at her and she was obviously drunk. I yelled, "STUPID DRUNK *****" at her. She looked over at me, but I think she was too drunk to comprehend.

          Accident PRONE

YOU CAN BE CAREFUL but that doesn't count for the other idiots on the road.
Couple years ago I was crawling up a hill at MIDNIGHT taking my SO home for the night. We were only going not more than 10-15 miles an hour up a hill. We saw this SUV looking in the opposite direction coming from another apt complex to get across the lanes. Before you knew it he just pulled right in front of us still looking the other way to get across and totaled the front end of my car! I guess the lesson is LOOK BOTH WAYS ! Had I known he was just going to pull out I would have had time to stop but it all happened in an instant. LESS than a block away from my apt.

THAN the following year we were coming home around MIDNIGHT again from a comedy club. My SO heard some car speeding up. I heard it too but thought it was either the TAXI cab or BUS riding beside me trying to beat the yellow light. RED LIGHT comes up I come to a smooth stop. SLAM! this car comes out of nowhere rear ends my ass! My damages were just a couple hundred away from being totaling my car. The other guy was DRUNK, no license, doesn't own the car, didn't speak english was from columbia or something. I had to make a claim using my own insurance. The day in court really disappointed me with the justice system. Virginia (maybe other states too) always brag how strict their laws have become with DUI's, but I swear this fellow got off scott free. He was fined like $2000 (but only had to pay like a $1000 and a year in jail), BUT, GET THIS most of his sentence was forgiven ACCEPT he DID have to go to jail for 10 days straight and offer so many hours of community service. His lawyer tried to get the judges sympathy saying that the dude just got a job and if his client could serve his sentence only on weekends. WHATEVER. I walked out.

            Would you even believe...

...that yesterday, on the way home from work (on the island...LBK), I come down Cortez, which is the second of our West(to the beach)/East(away from beach) roads and lo and behold...another t-bone...this one was from looks of it, a pickup that had rammed a mini-van...mini-van rear end was missing....about three MCSO's (manatee county sherrif officer)cars and a couple of FL state troopers....luckily...I was taking my sweet time home & missed it from the looks of it about 10 minutes....

            What's wrong with our drivers????

              3 children orphaned in ohio

A family of 5 was driving down a street that crosses over a 4 lane highway in a minivan. I believe the minivan was heading north, and as reports from the paper are detailing, the minivan did run the redlight. A Police officer was heading west on the 4 lane, he was not responding to any calls, just driving. And Unfortunately, the police office hit the minivan, sending the minvan into a telephone pole. The 3 children in the backseat witnessed their father die, and their mother died later at the hospital.

Please hug your kids tonight too.

Our once quiet Sunrise where you never heard a hint of siren is now the scene of many accidents. At 120 ave and Oakland park and 115 Avenue and Oakland. Mostly T-bones. Of the many I have seen nearly all have the same component, Minivan or Nissan/Toyota SUV's mostly driven by Hispanic Women, most trying to make the light at 115 or 120. Most at those intersections involve Injury or Fatality. The problem is people trying to translate Dade County driving to Broward now that they are moving up here in droves.

There are brand new townhomes in the area and it has increased the number of risk takers. Old Sunrisers are familiar with the dangers of those Intersections. Traffic enforcement used to be EXTREME here, not now. The City wants to dump our Cops on to broward County calling it a "cost saving measure". I never saved a dime when they privitized sanitation, this won't either. Cooper City lost their Cops, crime is now on the rise in that area.

                  Amelia,

I know it is crazy down there. When I lived in off University in Mote Ranch, there were always bad accidents. One of the worse ones I remember was a golf cart that was hit in Palm Aire. Killed the driver. He was very old and that is part of the problem. He darted off the golf course and into the road and of course was hit. Right now you all have all the snow birds and some of them are not the best of drivers! Be very careful! My mom was over there a couple weeks ago and said she cannot believe the growth since I moved away. Said Lakewood Ranch is an entire city.

Canadians and New Yorkers drive like saints compared to Hatians and South Americans! these guys are every man for himself and literally the rufusal to have their manhood insulted by giving way results in accidents. How do you run a red light? Flash your high beams! I live it every day! These guys have cars that look like they've been demo-derbied before they are three years old!

WE DO NOT USE TURN SIGNALS HERE! If you do the lane of traffic behind you cuts you off just for the fun of speeding up and keeping you out of the lane! Why do you think we love that E350 Van we have? It has a GVWR of 4.25 tons, 155 lbs. more than my friends full size Hummer, is tall and can bully it's way into a lane change no questions asked. Now I use my signals all the time! When they start to go around and play the game I just keep coming over, they scramble.

Some of these people were literally driving donkey carts three years ago! SoFla driving? "So easy a caveman can do it", or "we think it's so easy we'll let cave men have licenses" and then when they yell at you it is always in "Tarzan English". this is a funny place to live.

University Parkway is a death strip....Cortez & Manatee can be just as bad.

The growth is phenominal....they took the golf course north of Cortez on 75th street & turned it into a housing development.....we all wonder who's buying in there......it's sooo cookie cutter.

                        Amelia,

What is El conquistador like these days? I cannot remember what street it is on. MIL owned a condo on the golf course in the back of the development. She sold it about 6 years ago. It was beautiful. Is there a lot of growth in there. I used to turn at the Target there in Bradenton. There were some older homes before the entrance to El conquistador. I would love to see that area now!
