I've had Alltel for about 7 years. I can't find the class action you are referring to. There are several. Can you post a link to the one you are talking about please?

    Thanks,

I got the Class Action Suit in the mail last week. If you were a customer during the 2001 to 2003 period and you were charged a "Regulatory & Recovery Fee", the suit alleges that Alltel unlawfully enriched themselves, therefore the suit.

If you choose to except the settlement, you get a calling card worth 55 free minutes with Alltel or another major carrier. You don't have to do anything because the card will come with the Class Action Suit notice and you just activate it and use it. This is your acceptance of the settlement. You also have the option of a $5.50 credit or something like that. I'm not positive about the $5.50 and what exactely it is for.

This does not mean that Alltel is admitting to any unlawful acts, but rather, settling the suit "out of court" if you will.

Customers of Alltel also have the option to opt out and comtinue on with their lives and not use the free minutes.

Customers can also file an objection to the settlement as well.

Pfft, what a joke. A whole $5.50 or 55 minutes? It's not worth it for me becasue I have a cellular service (not Alltel) and I have minutes, that I've never gone over, free nights (after 7pm), free weekends and I have nationwide long distance. I could care less about 55 free minutes. I think Alltel customers should receive restutution on top of being refunded the charges for the Regulatory and Recovery Fees. Ya know, if this thing ever went to a jury trial, Alltel could be convicted of mail fraud for overbilling their customers. If you knowingly overcharge someone, once you put a stamp on it, you comitted mail fraud.
