As to Obama being far left, well I am a progressive liberal, and I do not think Obama has even come close to representing my views. His agenda has been much more like Bushes' than like the agenda any liberal would want. He is growing the war in Afghanistan, trying to cut social programs, was going to allow a roll-back of abortion rights, and has all but abandoned womens and gay rights initiatives.
But....
He is better than the alternatives.
Obama and Alito have a long personal history of animosity that goes back to when Obama did not vote for Alito's confirmation. Obama also overturned one of Alito's key rulings as one of his first actions as president.
No president gets much done. All presidents read from teleprompters. I agree that this speech was just a speech and will not change much, as you can see from my comments earlier in this thread.
Obama was forced by public opinion to ramp up the Afghanistan offensive. He is rolling back "don't ask , don't tell" for the gays. He hired Janet Napolitano to assuage both women's groups and gays when she is clearly unqualified.
What social program has he cut? What roll-back of abortion rights has he almost allowed?
Obama is a Marxist.
Alito has been proven correct by all who have fact checked Obama's distortion of the SCOTUS ruling. Obama can not overturn a SCOTUS ruling.
I trust all is well in California. Be careful, that state is close to bankruptcy. I wouldn't want you to become trapped at the Hotel California.Well, I did. Every one of 'em. They don't need to spend more money we don't have on yet another pork laden 'stimulus' 'job' 'whatever' bill.
They could immediately give broad relief to all industries if they'd just cut corporate taxes 10-15%. A 1 paragraph bill that merely cut the corporate tax in half would be a tremendous boon for all business in the United States.May 31st, 2007: Petition Filed by my lawyer

It wouldn't matter if all the Democrats came out and instinctively selected the "DEM" lever(s). The voters did NOT stay home. Almost 2,250,000 votes were cast. Only 3,000,000 people came out for the presidential election. That's impressive for a special election. Basically, it was not at all about being home, complacent and people defending "The People's Seat" as "Ted Kennedy's Seat". Very smart move by Scott Brown to make it the "People's Seat".

2/3rds of the public is opposed to the Obama-Pelosi-Reid health care bills and the people of Massachusetts stepped up and spoke loudly and clearly for the citizens in the other 49 states(56 if you are Obama).Well, I did. Not quite true that I'm unable to discuss anything with an open mind. I spent some time as a liberal and have come to appreciate the values of conservatism. I don't hold far right wing views (at least I don't think I do, perhaps you can define those for all of us).
I hold beliefs that are documented in the Constitution of our great country.
I have no desire nor need to consider liberal points of view. Most are too malleable to be given the time of day. Most require a tweaking of the Constitution to justify them. I did my research.
I have no rage. In fact, I usually laugh at liberal posts.Well, I did. Every one of 'em. Mostly I remember the last one. The wild finish. A guy standing on a station platform in the rain with a comical look in his face because his insides have been kicked out. -Rick

Glad to see Ted Kennedy & Christopher Dodd gone.
Happy?
How about naming some Republicans you'd like to see removed?Stopped Payings CC's: 8/14/2009 | Retained Attorney: 9/23/2009 | Filed CH 7: 12/7/2009 | 341 Meeting: 1/21/2010 - Complete | Discharged: 4/9/2010

Add Ben Nelson of Nebraska to that list.
He was able to wrangle a special "deal" for his state's Medicare funding. Later, he withdrew it, under fire. That he tried this in public, in the first place, is enough to merit his removal.
Back home, in Nebraska, voters were outraged. I think he may lose the next election. I know folks from Nebraska. They are generally no-nonsense, common-sense people, and I wasn't surprised at all when they (all parties) expressed contempt toward Nelson.
Really, though, I think this nationwide BK party is just getting underway. And the electorate will probably speak very loudly come election time. Nearly every state is in trouble, and the place they usually look for help, Washington, is so broke there won't BE any help. The money they might have received has already been spent to shore up the golden hallways in the towers of Wall Street.
When the you-know-what hits the fan, it will be loud and ugly. I don't know if it will even make any sort of sense, after it settles. I expect a resounding vote against incumbents of all parties, I think. What happens from there is anyone's guess, but it probably still won't solve anything.
Hard to fix problems that require money and fiscal restraint when we have neither in our government, and have not through the last 4-5 administrations.
BTW, I didn't mean to stir up bad feelings with this post, only to express my concerns, so if anyone has been irritated with the little bit of mud-slinging that got injected here, my apologies. Some very polarizing events are happening around us and there are bound to be strong feelings.11-20-09-- Filed Chapter 7
