    Shocked to the core

Never thought I would find myself in this situation. But I found myself dating a narcissist sociopath who lead me down a road of twists and turns of emotional trauma, lies and deception…. And now I’m thousands of dollars in debt, without a job and no way to dig myself out.

that being said… I’m now facing the very real possibility of bankruptcy. I’m ashamed and confused and just looking for whatever help anyone is willing to give me on where to start and how to start and if there are ways to even do it when you literally have NO money and NO job.

I have heard you shouldn't file for bankruptcy when you are unemployed, but I don't remember the reasoning behind that recommendation. As for being out of work, my mother always used to say, "If you're out of work, you should be spending 40-hours per week looking for work."

Obviously I don't know your situation and skill set, but do you feel there is any way you can get back into the workforce?

So… I’m out of work because I have bipolar and we’ve been spending the last several months trying to get my meds corrected so that I can actually stay out of the asylum. And get back into society. My now ex fiancé was bringing in enough from his part time job to put food on the table.
I also had a work injury that I had a settlement from that was enough to pay most of the major bills.
some Very Bad purchases were made (via some mind games from him) while I was swinging back and forth on these meds - he was really good at taking advantage of my hypnotic phases - which has now landed me extremely badly in debt.

so - that’s kind of the gist as to 1. Why I’m not working and 2 why I’m so badly in debt and needing bankruptcy.

so what am I supposed to do now?

im in need of back surgery in January. But can’t afford it.
im in need of money to pay my bills but Im in need of filing bankruptcy but you say not to file if I’m unemployed….

      what do I do?

Do you have anyone you can trust and talk to about this? A friend who won't put you down or gossip? If you do please talk to them for support.

Do you have a caseworker or social worker that can help you figure out your next step?

Also see what type of assistance you can get for medical help. I know in my state if you qualify for Medicaid you can get benefits.

I don't know if you can consult any attorneys for free to get more information. But that might help you decide what you can or cannot do.

And stay away from your ex and put yourself first. Focus on your needs and don't get involved in another relationship too soon, YOU are the priority!

I’m sorry you’re facing this—it’s a lot to deal with and it’s understandable to feel overwhelmed. Bankruptcy can seem intimidating, but it’s designed to provide people with a fresh start during difficult times. If you’re without a job or income, Chapter 7 bankruptcy may be a good option for you because it can discharge unsecured debts like credit cards and personal loans. Filing fees can sometimes be waived if your financial situation meets certain criteria, and there are even pro bono legal resources available in some areas.
