I am considering BK. I am 72 retired and am running out of savings. I am deep in unsecured debt given I had to retire given an unexpected illness. I am not behind on anything yet but will be in months. I’m depressed and scared

Welcome to the forum @Figranny, it sounds like a Chapter 7 is an option, time to talk with an attorney.
    Chapter 13 (not 100%):
    • Burned: AMEX, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and South County Bank cum Bank of Southern California
    • Filed: 26-Feb-2015
    • MoC: 01-Mar-2015
    • 1st Payment (posted): 23-Mar-2015
    • 60th Payment (posted): 07-Feb-2020
    • Discharged: 04-Mar-2020
    • Closed: 23-Jun-2020

I have an appointment next week. Have read the schedules. Completely overwhelmed and more frightened than ever. I hope I get through this

Flgranny, lots of us here have been through either a Chapter 7 or a Chapter 13, some have been through both. Yeah, it is a daunting prospect to file for bankruptcy, but there is definitely light at the end of the tunnel.

You are among friends here. Continue to ask any questions that you have. You may even vent here. Bankruptcy does seem overwhelming but the benefits are tremendous.

Sometimes, just filing will make you feel 1000% better. I remember the day that I filed my petition with the bankruptcy court. I had a big smile on my face as I walked out the courthouse doors. Yeah, I only had $20 in my pocket and it would cost $32 to get a ride back home... but I felt great!
