    Down in the dumps today!

Today didn't start out great for me. Started out exhausted, had to take my son to the doctor (nothing serious) and then on my way here to work called about a job I'd interviewed for twice in July only to find out it has been filled and I received zero notice! I've written, called, followed up in every way I knew to do and heard nothing. Finally called the HR department today who transferred me to the practice manager who told me the director had hired someone. The interviews went well.

I am REALLY frustrated!!!!! I make at least $15,000 less than people in my field with this level of experience, I've had several job interviews and no offers. It doesn't help that my husband is in the same field as I am and I can't work where he does because he is technically over the entire facility.

It is so hard for me not to get down on myself.

    Thanks for letting me vent!

I really hate it when "professional people" don't even have the courtisey to make a phone call and say "we chose someone else for the position"......... professionals are sooooooooo tacky..............

I can sympathize and empathize with you here (I'm in the same boat). Sorry, I know it's hard, but, believe it or not, things will get better. Wish I could give you a big hug!

We went thru the same thing, Jane, with the big job hunt for Hubby.

There were a couple of positions that he seemed to be getting close on. They talked very positively, checking with his references and such. Then nothing. Hubby would give them a week or so and then call. No decision yet. Then wait a while longer and call again. "We decided to go with another candidate."

Only one, after several, "Hey, I'm here." reminder calls did finally send a "Thanks, but no Thanks." letter in the mail.

            It is FRUSTRATING!!

At least the calls were job contacts for the week for Unemployment purposes.

              Temping

Can you at least work temp jobs until something pulls through? I have been currently working 2 full time jobs for the past 10 years and am afraid I'm going to be stuck for another 5 years after filing for BK13. Im just waiting for a court hearing to confirm a payment plan. They want $800 a month! Heck, I don't even clear $800 a month on one check. So if the plan gets confirmed at $800 a month. There goes one of my jobs, practically, I see nothing at the end of a pay period! But I guess thats what its all about, "disposable," income. I can only see one positive side to this, I'm paying the creditors without interest. I don't have to worry about getting, judgements, garnishments, sued .. the works. I'm still upset at the thought

                In Florida...it takes three weeks...

...for them to tell you you're not hired...

I can relate totally....just put in an application yesterday for a SAT only job...leasing asst. at a condominium complex...$10/hr..7 hours...that would help! I already do property mgt...so I'm sure it would be a breeze...I'll call them tomorrow as I only filled out the app. yesterday......

But, all I can say, is keep trying...I make the same at my job in FL that I made 20 years ago in NY when I was 24....GO FIGURE!!!

But, my health insurance is $50/mo...and dental is $15/mo....not too bad...but boy does it go up when you have a "family" coverage...I can't believe the jump...then, it's like $299/H,W & 1 child....wow...almost 2/3 paycheck...how do people do it????

Oh Jane! I wish I could give you some words of widsom to help you and comfort you like you did for me when I was having my problem with my friend.

Try to think of it that this wasn't the right job and that just means something better is coming along.

Sometimes, when I'm down, I try to treat myself like I'm sick. Take a hot bath, eat my favorite food for dinner and go to bed early. Things always seem better the next day, and if they don't than do it again, treat yourself well, take it easy and try to have a better day the next.

Like they say in AA, sometimes you have to "fake it till you make it".

                  Feel better soon!

I'm sorry to hear that Jane,

I know exactly how you feel. It is tough these days, but you’ve gotta believe that you’re tougher. You gotta get up everyday and take on the day and forget about yesterday. Do not let this lull discourage you. Compliment yourself by telling yourself that these companies don’t know what they’re missing. Tell yourself that they’ll be sorry for not offering you the job. Make it their loss and not yours. You gotta maintain your confidence level. If you get to low, you won’t interview well because you’ll have this misconception that they won’t hire you and the company may see a lack of confidence. Stay positive, remain optimistic and be confident. That PERFECT job is out there waiting for you. You’ll land it. I know you will.

                      Catch,
In your other post, you said you were making $60K between the two jobs. Are you making 4K from a more stable job and 1K from a near minimum wage one? I'm just wondering what percentage your income would drop by alleviating one job?

Thanks, guys! I appreciate the moral support more than you know. I know that none were the right thing for me, but it is so hard.

If this job plays out I will more than likely see if I can teach additional classes at our local college where I teach one class per semester now. We would also consider selling our home (another thread) and move into something more economical.

I agree with Minnymouth:The very least a company can do when you apply for a position with them is have the courtesy to let you know either by phone or mail that they have selected someone else. It's just a courtesy that unfortunately alot of companies do not take the time to do.Really irks me too.
Sorry things are not going well right now but I'm sure it'll be looking up in the future.
Keep trying for another job elsewhere.I'm sure you'll find one soon.

BassBoy, you made an excellent point! I really do have to tell myself positive things or else I won't interview well. My husband tells me I put myself down way too much. Honestly, I have been in somewhat of a rut for some time now. I did well today and didn't break down sobbing when I discovered I didn't get the job! (My voice quivered when I called my husband, but I didn't really cry! An improvement for me!)

I know that I am smart and my best friend tells me that I am one tough cookie and that I will overcome this with God's help and the help of my friends. (Oh, no, a Beatles' song in my head now--LOL!!! )

I'll say it again for the umpteenth time--I don't know how I'd survive without you guys!

                            Peace,

Unfortunately, it seems like most companies no longer respond to resumes or interviews unless you get the job. I'm to the point where I'm glad when a company gives some auto-acknowledgment that your resume was received and those that post in the job description that only those accepted for an interview will be contacted. I must have had 100 resumes go unacknowledged last year.
