"Mail volume has dropped precipitously"
This statement pretty much says it all. If one's business drops precipitously they must cut costs.
The pension Ponzi schemes aren't much help either. The world is just simply running out of new suckers to pay off the old suckers bad bets.
If the govt does happen to default on it's debt August 2nd it will be interesting to see just how Congress will fund the Post Office. My guess is most Congressman will be heading to Argentina by August 3rd.
By the time the govt defaults the P.O. will be irrelevant since no one will pay their CC bills anyway when they arrive. The post office should just burn the bills to keep warm like the old pictures of Germany burning their worthless currency. The essence of freedom is the proper limitation of Government

If it's possible, you're even more pessimistic than I am.

So not true!! I hear that a lot here and in person and it's just not true. I look forward to seeing in my lifetime all of this raw sewage finally getting flushed down the bowl once and for all.
We need a real productive economy!!! Eventually we will get it. To get there we will have to let the poor business models whether it's the P.O., GM, All of the big banks and the rest of the zombies clean house.
We will be thriving again only after the mother of all financial collapses comes and goes and trust me it's coming soon! The essence of freedom is the proper limitation of Government

I see your point!
Of course we could just go back to the same tariff levels we had from the late 1700's through 1980's, and manufacturing would return!

Thanks for the link. He should of been terminated. No were in the article mentioned a union vetoing a termination. Seems that management made a call based upon their criteria such as first offence. I have seen people doing stupid things in non union firms that kept their jobs.
