There are apps for phones such as BLUFFMYCALL that do the same thing. I think it should be illegal too. Way too many scary things can happen from this....teenagers could be put in danger (or anyone for that matter). Just opens the gate for people with sick minds to do even more things they should not do.

But how is it that they have phone numbers for your husband/wife or your best friend to use to spoof the call? Are they hacking into your cell phone and getting into your contacts list?

No, they were either found on a database or someone gave them up.

That's really scary! I've had that happen to me but really could not figure out how they got the #'s. They would have to have a database that connects numbers on given cell phone accounts together. Basically wouldn't they have to get that from your carrier? When it happened to me, my cell phone got a call from my house and then I called the carrier who swore they do not sell our cell phone #'s.

If you google "reverse phone lookup" or similar search words, you will see. Scary.

And they probably don't sell your number.

However...... think about all of the places that you give you cell number.

              Order a pizza?

Emergency contact # at a medical office?

              Video rental store?

One of the nations oldest and largest Pizza chains loves to sell phone numbers. It is an additional profit center for them.

Everyone asks for your cell number and email address these days. My wife and I have an arranged phone number that we give anyone that asks. And by the way, it's not our number.

Wow this is an old scam.......... I'm surprised anyone fell for that. This scam has been around for a long time. The FTC has publicized this a long time ago. America, "Wake up" listen with both ears. Is there anyone who would be interested in a Nigerian Lottery Ticket???? Or could someone cash a check for me in their bank account?
