Bad Credit Derails Job Seekers

Company's are checking credit history
I live in Lake Worth Florida. I have been looking for a job. I finally found a good fit. The Company sent me to a lab for a drug test. I had to sign papers for a background check & credit report. My credit is really bad now! I am on pins & needles waiting to see if they will rescind the job offer. If everything is OK I am supposed to start working this Tuesday.
I am an honest person. I would never steal from a company even if I end up living in my car with my children. I am 46 yrs. old, I have never even had a traffic infraction. How can you pay your bills if you cant get a job, b/c you cant pay your bills you look dishonest.
I lost my job a year ago and after a few months I found a job (sales). I did very well, however the company that I worked for felt that it was alright to cheat me out of my sales commissions. I traveled 120 miles a day to go to work. My husband had to stay at my mothers house in NY to get work,he would stay there for 2 months at a time and then after coming home for a week he had to go back. We have teenage daughters. My day started @4:00 am & ended @ 11:00 pm.
The gas was killing me. I was traveling 4 hrs. a day. I would be responsible to open & close the store.
I could not work for a company that was cheating me on my sales commissions.
I gave up my UI to take this job. Now I am not eligable for UI b/c I quit my job. It is too hard to prove that this company did this due to the commission structure. Sales jobs can be risky in this economy.
When I checked out this company with the Better Business Bureau they had an "F" rating. That tells me that if a company does not take care of its customers it won't take care of its employee's.
In my opinion anyone that has to file bankruptcy is taking a big risk, in a sales position at this time, unless they are going to get a draw (a good one) that can hold them over, in this economy.
I am very hard on myself. Now b/c of my poor choice in accepting the wrong job my family will suffer.
My credit is in a schambles. I am ashamed for a potential employer to see my credit report even if they do not rescind the offer.
It might be a blessing if you loose out on this job. Sales = Risk.
For People that have to support family's, it might be better for us to work @ McDonalds flipping burgers. (Of course where our children wont find out or their friends for that matter).
Good Luck in your Future endevors.
G-D Bless.
All I can do is wait!

The article states what I and several others on here have been staying for years...be open and honest about your situation at an interview if you are concerned about any BK or bad credit on your credit reports. Getting a job is all about selling yourself to the potential employee and what you can do for the employer as to help the employer make money. They will not hire anyone who could be a liability in any way to their company. They want skills, loyalty and experience, someone who would be a good fit for the organization so they won't quit and they don't want to have to put money out on a new employee to have to do too much training, etc. (i.e., why they are always interested in certain skills). If one does their homework on any place to which they have applied, they can easily find out the hiring process of that company - many have online websites which give potential employees a breakdown of the company and information as to the specific hiring process._________________________________________
