Another Stimulus payment.. What do you think?

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081008/...eltdown_pelosi

My personal thoughts on it is... the first one did nothing as far show any effect on the economy. It did pay my mortgage payment for the month though which was nice. A second probably wouldnt do anything either unless of course they gave us all a much larger amount. Lets say like, $3,000 a person. Bet we could find a way to stimulate something with that. Okay I am just dreaming there.

Wrong math again. Actual amount for $700B is $3,043 for every person 18 yrs and older.

I wouldn't look for any more cash payouts after the election. The 2nd stimulus would go for programs and projects to benefit the unemployed and hungry, if congress passes anything at all. No more votes to buy.

Not true. Re-do your math. $700B divided by approximately 230,000,000 (adults) is about $3,000.00 per person over 18. Or about $2,100 for every man, woman, and child.

The stimulus checks for 2008 cost about $70B and went to everyone but me. There are a bunch of people it doesn't go to. They have income limitations. I hate that. I never get anything. I wasn't stimulated. So, I had to file Bankruptcy. Yeah, it's all the President's fault.

I won't argue math. I cain't spell nither. But you all know that. One of God's gifts to man besides the tomato and chicken, is the spell checker. However, let those fools give us anything. After all it is our tax money coming back to us. IRS got mine anyway. At this time, not to go politics, I am fear of our Country finanicial situation. The only thing I can do is handle my own. When USA gets a cold, the World gets the flue. We are living in "Interesting Times."

                Sorry, you're all wrong...

The USA gains a new person every 11 seconds:

                One birth every.................................. 7 seconds
                One death every.................................. 13 seconds
One international migrant (net) every............ 30 seconds
Net gain of one person every..................... 11 seconds

The amount has now dropped to $3,040.23239 per person, assuming 24.6% of the population is under 18.

I love the One international migrant (net) every............ 30 seconds. That is skewing the result. I'm including only people who would actually receive the handout... I mean stimulus!

                    God, I love this board!

I really think congress should give us all each a million dollars then we would all be Millionaires. No more poor people.

Don't laugh this is probably going to be Obama's re-election pledge in 4 years from now.

Basically as hard as it sounds, for the economy to really get better the government has to stop spending money it doesn't have.

That's right. I'd rather they just stop spending money they DON'T HAVE.

Look where that mentality got all of us. lol

This is a bad idea. They can't just keep throwing money at the problem hoping it will go away.

Well, this is the same as the reform Acts in 1964, which pumped money into the Economy, but it did so from the bottom up.

I'm not an Economist. I hold no major, minor, or even "certificate" in Economics.

Now, with that in mind, we have so many people with money in investment grade stocks, certificates, annuities, money market funds, demand deposit accounts, and other liquid assets.

We are so intertwined with the economy, the World economy for that matter, that a Banking system collapse would knock us back to 1964. Most of us, including myself, weren't around back then, so we have no clue.

And if the system collapsed and we were back to 1964... just how much money do you think it would take to get us back running? The number would be more mind boggling than $700B or even $1.5Trillion. We lost $2.5Trillion dollar in market value in the last 3 weeks (my 401(k) went down 30% in the last week). Sorry, but I can't just stand by and say... don't do it.

A collapse of the Banking system would have devastating affects. Look no further than the Solvanic capital of Reykjavik which had a run on the Banks.

That is not good. Folks who say, just let it collapse either (a) have no money in banks or (b) have very little money to worry about.

All I can say is... it's not that simple. It's not like rebooting your computer, and hopping it restarts.

I was just Broke. Then I went Bankrupt. Now, if my 401(k) keeps it up... I'll be homeless too.
