When President Bush took office on January 20, 2001, the national average gas price was $1.46 per gallon. Six and a half years later, on August 27, 2007, the national average gas price had jumped to $2.76, roughly 89% higher. Compounded annually, this represents about a 10% jump each year Bush has been in office.
Now, let’s compare the numbers over the same time period for President Clinton.
When Clinton took office on January 20, 1993, the national average gas price was $1.06 per gallon. six and a half years later, the national average gas price had jumped to $1.22, roughly 15% higher. Compounded annually, this represents about a 2% jump each year.
Even when you compare all of Clinton’s term (38% jump overall) against the first six and a half years of Bush’s term, the overall jump in gas prices between the two presidents isn’t even close. In order to meet Clinton’s “numbers” gas prices would have to fall to $2.02 per gallon - or roughly 36%.
That is old news.
When you go to home depot & there are more employees than there are customers & when you hit the grocery store & the cashiers who see it go up daily & the retailers all tell the same story...
Our economy is falling apart way too fast- There are big problems lurking & yes I blame fat head Pres. Shub for 80% of the problems that he is leaving behind including the oil wars with Cheney & blah blah blah....Then when questioned they act stupid like they are not aware of the rising gasoline prices.
"oh duh duh, I was not aware gasoline was getting so high"
When asked about the possibility of the price going that high, president says, 'That's interesting, I hadn't heard that.' He also says a tax hike on oil companies would drive the price up further.
What a bunch of dumb a**, selfish leaders we have right now! thinking the public has no clue what our leaders are doing, then they act stupid on top of it & fail to answer real hard questions. How can the twisted leader of our country be such a moron to act as if he has no clue how high the gasoline & oil is rising! he is really that ignorant of a politician & out of touch with this country...
It cost me $30.00 to fill up a half tank of gas last night. Cost for regular unleaded in $3.09 in my area...you can get if for a couple of cents cheaper if you drive 15-20 further.

There was a story on our local news last night about diesel prices and the impact it is having on trucking companies, and independant truck drivers.
Diesel is over $4 per gallon now. One local company has recently had to lay off 3 of their 7 drivers. Some truckers are parking their rigs now and hoping for some relief or they won't be able to stay afloat.
Local cab companies are suffering also, due to the increase in gas prices. Some cities have fare caps imposed on these companies, which are antiquated at this point. Hard for some of these companies to break even, say nothing about making a profit.
The price of oil is bad enough, the price of kerosene is obscene! Over $4 per gallon on our last delivery. Fortunately, we burn regular fuel oil for the house, which we were able to lock in a price on at the beginning of the season, but our shop/garage burns kerosene, as the tank is outside. The companies refused to lock in the prices on kerosene this year (I think they knew something we didn't).
I don't feel sorry for us, heat in our garage/shop is optional, and a luxury really these days, but I can't help but think about all the folks living in trailers/manufactured homes in the cold climates. Most of these homes have outdoor oil tanks, thus the need to burn kerosene. I can't imagine how they are making in through the winter financially............
As I said,,,,,, it's OBSCENE!!!
You can't have your cake and eat it too. But you can dip your finger in the bowl and lick the icing
Get a pellet stove my friend... $600 (2 tons, delivered) heated my house last winter... $575 (2 tons, delivered) heated my house this winter (I've still got 1/2 ton left). I'm able to keep the house at a balmy 72-74 degrees (and 80+ if I desire) on those single digit days!
PM me if you want the web address of the dealer I use for pellet delivery.
YMMV... My house is 2 story 1250 Sqft.

We currently have a regular wood stove, which we use to supplement heating our house. I've thought a lot about a pellet stove, as we have friends that have one and really enjoy it.
The only drawback, I see is that when the power goes out (we live in a rural area), as I understand it, we'd have no heat......as the hopper wouldn't work. That's my only hesitation..........
Maybe it would be a good idea for the shop, though?

Not true.
In these parts you can have a fuel oil tank outside.
It isn't an issue at all.
Though I don't even like to think about my natural gas bill.
Couple of years ago, I would have gone off the deep end with a bill over $100 a month. Now I am looking at $200-250 a month to heat my house.
Gas on the military installation where we live goes up about 2-3 cents per day for the last few weeks. We got a three percent pay raise in January, and everything from food at the commissary to gas to uniform prices to child care on post has gone up about 6 percent...that's what we get for our purple hearts...

As was mine. We picked up a small generator and a long extention cord for it. Just make sure that the generator plays somewhat nicely with basic electronics.
It's a little bit of work to maintain... but with the alternative it's well worth it. The stove paid for itself after the first year. I wish I could tote the thing with me to my new apartment.

some wood/corn stove manufacturers make a solar panel back-up system for the augur (which would save the power in a battery for night use). I would like to get a universal wood pellet/corn stove, and when I do plan to get the solar back-up kit.

I have never heard of a solar panel backup system for pellet stoves. That would have to be one heck of a panel to power the 2 blower motors (1 exhaust and 1 convection) as they run constantly.
A multi-fuel stove is the way to go. The problem with corn is keeping the mice and such away from your fuel storage area.
