    Update on Private student Loans

Congress votes tomorrow on private student loan discharge

I picked up this information from a professional list serve on which I participate:

There will be an amendment Thursday on the floor of the House to the Higher Education Act reauthorization bill to permit the bankruptcy discharge of private student loans after five years. (Nonprofit and government student loans would remain nondischargable.) We are looking
for sign-ons to the Q&A about the amendment, and also, for anyone who can or on their own time, calls or emails to Representatives to "Support the Davis [Rep. Danny Davis (D-IL) Amendment to the HEA Reauthorization
bill to permit private student loans to be discharged like other private loans." The Capitol switchboard is (202) 224-3121

If you have a position on this issue, make it known to your representative in Congress.

Wow - that would be awesome. I would love to include my Sallie Mae in the bk. I just sent my congressman an email. The only problem though is that he is a republican. :-(

It's an election year. Enough pressure regardless of the party gets attention.

ETA: We all experience difficulties from time to time regardless of the party.
