States may be different, but there generally is no down side to a business when an employee seeks unemployment benefits. Like you said, you have already paid into the fund during the employment term of this person. I wouldn't bother dealing with the appeal. The only time an employer may dispute the unemployment claim is if the reason for termination given by the employee to the government is obviously false. Otherwise, there really is no reason for an employer to dispute a former employee's claim for benefits.
