So Sunday (Valentines Day) we come home from a ride out in the back country to find a man sitting in a truck on the road behind our house. I didn't really think much of it because people always park there to talk on their phones next to the main road. While we were unloading our vehicle the truck drives by twice . . . then it finally stops and the man asks my husband if he is so and so and says he is here to pick up our trailer . . . Wow kind of a surprise since we had a payment due only one week prior. My husband had called the CU and they said they would do one deferment for January and our February payment would be due next . . . well surprise, surprise I guess they changed their minds! It was kind of an embarrassing deal because he had been stalking out our house since 1 in the afternoon and we didn't get home till around 6:30ish. The trailer was not at our home it was down in a locked trailer storage. The thing that gets me is my neighbor came over while my husband took the repo guy down to unlock the trailer storage and he was telling me this guy was all over our house and he was asking him questions like does so and so live here do you have their phone number my neighbor was really uncomfortable he left me a few voicemails telling me there was a strange man around our house today. It was the first part of the BK process that got me because I had to explain to my neighbor we are not getting stalked we are giving our trailer back to the bank. It was actually really hard for me. The thing that makes me mad is he said he had been trying to get ahold of us for 5 days but he had our old phone number and then on top of that he had our old address so who knows how he found our new house and who he was asking where we lived. The CU knows our new phone number and we have told them before of our address change so that kind of made me mad. The hard part is that we have two more secured debts that will be repod soon and that kinda turns my stomach to know we will have a repo guy learking again!! Has anyone had any luck with calling and asking to surrender your repos instead of waiting around for them to come? Getting all our documents into our attorney this week to find out what are choices are and hopefully we can file very soon and get thie whole mess over and done with!

I called about the car I signed for (that @H promised to pay) and gladly volunteered to drop it off for the CU. They were extremely nice and said that the roll back would not make any issue. We live on our farm so it wasn't anyway and the repo guy was real nice. Notify all of your intent, ask them to share the repo company name and let that company know you would be pleased to meet in some parking lot (like a big Walmart) to exchange the item. No one would note that it is not a broken car being towed to repair. That is what I'd do. 'HubIf I knew it all, would I be here?? Thanks for the advice. I am going to call today and see if it would be possible to drop off the vehicle. When you call the creditor do you actually ask for the repo department or just talk to the collections department? This is just soo stressfull and I am the one at home with the kids so I feel completely overwhelmed.

Just call the loan department. They will direct you to the right person. It may be called different things in different banks. Since you are volunteering the repo they will treat you nicely. Many folks fight it. 'HubIf I knew it all, would I be here?? I just contacted our CU about surrendering our vehicle and thank goodness the lady was very nice. As of today our payment is 78 days late and there is just no way we can make that payment. I know that banks should not have to be so helpful to people in hard times but alls I can say is . . . Dang. We have been with that CU since 99 and have mutiple car loans and have always been up to date till this last year and they never once wanted to help us out with a work our program or anything. My 2nd car loan through a different CU whom we never banked with actually gave us a work out program for 4 months with half payments. I just can't believe my CU did not want to help us out in any way. Today we will be driving the 2 hours to the nearest CU and surrender the truck! In a way it seems like such a relief but there has been so many great times in that truck its actually emotional to have to give it up. We brought a baby home in the truck had many great family times. I just have to look ahead and hope for the best!! The hardest thing is having little kids with lots of questions. My husband told my son we were selling the trailer when the repo guy came and our 4 year old starting crying saying he didnt want to sell the trailer he wanted to go camping. Its soo hard with the little ones and explaining when right now they just dont understand. I can't believe I am crying right now typing this im such a softy!! Thank you for this forum is all I can say it's a big help!!

So my advice to you is to cherish the memories you made with your kids and look for new ways to create more memories that they will cherish. Kids are really resilient and will adapt faster than us older kids.Case Closed > 2/08/2010

I agree to looking forward to more memories! We love Yellowstone, so beautiful!! And like my husband says it was just a trailer when we were kids alls we had were tents . . . and that is true!! But the whole fact of getting rid of everything that has been apart of you for the past years is just heartbreaking to see it go. But I have to keep telling myself we are doing it for a fresh start and we will no longer have to worry about debt. I really didnt think much of us surrendering the truck yesterday. My husband was driving it behind me the whole trip and I couldnt stop looking at it through my mirrors thinking we will never see it again. After we pulled out of the CU parking lot I lost it and starting crying my husband thought I was ridiculous but it was our dream truck we had worked so hard to get it and fix it up and we loved the truck. Oh well Life does go on . . . and even though we haven't yet filed it seems since we had our first consult with the attorney that the weight has been lifted off our shoulders since we have made the final decision!

I dropped mine off at a lot, and told them where to
pick it up..a repo, is a repo, it will not look any better
or worse because you drove two hours to take it to them.

I just gave up my 5th wheel back in November, it was an 05 worth almost $95K new. I bought it as a repo two years ago for $50K. It was my home... I now live in my car or hang out my ex's place.
In a million years I would never have guess I could have been kicked out of a trailer park and lost a trailer and have ended up living in my car. If not for wifi or people's open networks in apartment complexes I wouldn't have internet most of the time. At my ex's she lets me use her putter.
In two years I lost my house (foreclosed on) and my 5th wheel. Thank God I own my car. I really was heart broken to see my trailer go. I know I won't ever be able to own anything that nice again.
At least a relative sold me a motorhome for $4K, just that the roof leaked and it is all rotten so I am waiting for winter to end to start working on it (if I am able) to make it livable. Guess I will be staying in parking lots and stuff.
Have no idea how I got here...
