Is it true that if you have a medical bill of 40K, that it's not dischargeable in BK? Medical bills actually go higher than that, so I must be getting the wrong information. Does anybody know? Thanks!
No, that's not true. There are no debt limits in Chap 7, only in Chap 13.
ETA: Even the Chap 13 debt limits are well over $40K.
LadyInTheRed is in the black!
Filed Chap 13 April 2010. Discharged May 2015.
$143,000 in debt discharged for $36,500, including attorneys fees. Money well spent!
Sometimes one has to really verify information like this. I have a medical bill for close to 70K, which should be covered by my county health plan. The hospital did send me the bill stating that if no one springs for it, I'm ultimately responsible, so I'm keeping this bill for any future BK filing, just in case.
I know BK is the way to go, but there's a lot of paperwork and study when one goes in pro per. I really appreciate the valuable tips you provide in this forum.
