Its filing day, Wish me luck....

Yes I have finally seen the BK light and have finished reading, decoding, and properly tweaking everything so I don't get laughed at. Its been more than a year since I decided to file and now is the time. Tomorrow I will turn in my paper work and hope for the best. I am in Illinois and I hear most of the trustes are not people oriented, I hope this changes. I have a vehicle repo about to hit anyday so this is the perfect time. Approx $50k in debt hopefully will no longer exist before long. I want to rebuild and get on with my life. I'm 28 y/o and college educated and my credit is holding me down. Thanks to all the posts that helped me over the past year and I'll update as the situation unfolds.

      How'd it go, Lavvman?

I guess your debt doesn't include student loans?

      Cheers.

            part 2

It was accepted and I have my case number now. So in 30 short days I'll be in the interview room with the trustee...

I declared on $51k surrendering a vehicle and debt to a college but not on my student loans.

Great. I hope you don't have to wait almost six weeks like I do. Sigh. I was *so* ready to go.

                  ..

This place i got the auto loan through will not leave me alone. 6 times they called today, I returned the call everytime and the first 3 I was told to forget it that they had been served with my bk papers, and the last three it was 3 different people asking what I was going to do with the car, and of course Im surrendering it since I owe $11,800 and its worth $2,500. I finally told them to stop calling me or I would file a complaint and she breathed in the phone and hung up so maybe thats that. Tomorrows another day . I also signed up for pacer so I'll wait for that to come in the mail since I dont have anymore credit/debit cards.

Gosh Lavvman, after the second call I think I would have been looking around for some tuning fork device to sound into the phone receiver -- isn't that what they do in the movies? Anyway, you've obviously got nerves of steel. I'm usually too afraid to even answer the phone, even when I'm not bankrupt.

                      ..

Well so far its been my impression that as soon as you tell the creditors pro se they seem to think that most of us are uneducated about the laws or that they can make an extra buck or get their stuff back a few months early. Thanks to all the contributors on this site we now have a free place to come and become educated on all Bk topics. Now on the other hand I wanted to break the phone but I called back to keep a trail that I did indeed call them back everytime and they were not just "trying to return my call" or "couldn't reach me" although they know they should not be calling me but I have fun with it. can't be stressed forever.....

Good luck to you! I filed pro se a couple

month ago and went very well! The
trustee was not the friendliest but I guess
can't expect them to be. I hope your case

I don't have any bankruptcy knock knock jokes, but I think this is what happens when the creditors meet bankruptcy filing:

Pete and Gladys were looking at a new living room suite in the furniture store.

Pete says to the salesman, "We really like it, but I don't think we can afford it."

The salesman says, "You just make a small down payment... then you don't make another payment for six months."

Gladys wheeled around with her hands on her hips and says, "Who told you about us?"
