Filing CH7 - Don't want to show street address

I don't mind the COURT and even my current creditors having my physical street address. But I'd like to find a way to hide it from public view.

We have a street side mail box and I don't like receiving mail of any kind there. It's just not secure enough with all the ID theft that goes on today. I realize that with my current credit situation, a thief wouldn't get much on that front. But that's not the only purpose of ID theft these days. Someone could just want to disappear and decide they want to assume my identity for their own needs.

I've never liked these mailboxes for that reason. I'm hoping someone can suggest a LEGAL way around this requirement.

    Thanks.

You MUST list your residence address on the petition. It is how you prove you are in the right jurisdiction and venue for your case.

However, you can designate a mailing address to receive all notices. It is right there on the petition, Form B1. It asks for your street address, and then a mailing address.

I understood that I had to put the residence on the petition.

I knew that was there too. I was hoping that someone knew of a way to somehow prevent anyone other than the courts/creditors (for this case only) from getting the street address.

Thanks anyway. I kind of figured it'd be that way. But wanted to ask just in case someone knew of an alternative.

It is public information for a reason. The Court has already dealt with the issues of Privacy by requiring certain things to be redacted or sealed. However, where you live is not one of those items. All creditors, including those that you didn't include on your Matrix, and other "interested" parties have a right to know.

You can buy a locking mailbox or you can remove your mailbox completely. Then all mail will get returned with a stamp that says "No mail receptacle".

Ok thanks anyway everyone. And just so you know, my goal wasn't so much to prevent legitimate creditors from knowing where I live. The goal was to prevent ID thieves from being able to retrieve things like credit card applications from the mailbox--by preventing them from being sent there in the first place.

I would seriously consider that--but I live with family right now and they would not appreciate that. Although they know the importance of SHREDDING documents to prevent ID theft, they don't seem concerned about people stealing mail from the street side mailbox. The same mail that she later shreds to prevent someone from digging through the trash to use it sits in the mailbox waiting for someone to just drive up and take it.

              Oh well.

Identity theft usually doesn't occur at your mailbox. It usually occurs in places that you trust! Like your bank or even giving information to your local vendor. Don't ask me how I know. The last time I had credit card information stolen, it was from a large, regional grocery chain who had their computer broken into. People were charging things at Babies-R-Us in California on my card and I live in Florida!
