    Filed.....Finally!

Bit the bullet and finally filed my Chap7 on Friday. After six weeks of doing the paperwork, I felt like I was sending a child out into the world on their own when I handed the 80+ sheets of my petition over to the clerk. it took him about 40 minutes to take it all in--mostly because his high-speed scanner wasn't. High speed that is, the darn thing would take all the pages, but just blow off the whole scanning part of the equation. Poor fellow must of fed my paperwork into it five times before it took.

As the scanner continued to fail to work, the clerk kept complimenting me on my perfect paperwork. He kept telling me that it was the exception to the rule. (Believe me, I agonized over every detail, and re-printed several forms multiple times to make sure both that they were perfect and that I had followed directions to the letter.) After about the third compliment, I told him I was kind of surprised, since I assumed that with something as important as a personal bankruptcy filing people would take the time to do it right and check their work. He looked at me as if I were a fool to think such a thing and said, "Oh no--not even close."

As if to prove his point, a couple rolled up to the window next to me and started filling out their paperwork as they filed it--well, the husband did. The pregnant wife was trying (in vain)to amuse a very cranky toddler AND his infant brother. Jeez, two kids, another on the way, and a bankruptcy filing. I'll never complain about my stress level again.

Anyhow, it is done and the ball is rolling. And all fingers are crossed that it does not come back to me and knock me upside the head.

Cool! It's always nice to get compliments like that on the paperwork, too. Good luck! Hope your entire process is uneventful.

Yes, congratulations on filing and on the compliments. It is shocking that some people don't care about something that important.
