    Just Had 341 Meeting!

    And boy was it swift.

They only asked 3-4 questions, no problems. The only real thing in question was whether my ex-wife was responsible for some of the medical bills. per the divorce decree, she is, but I am the guarantor so none of the creditors would go after her for her half. He seemed happy with that answer, for what it's worth.

Was impressed that we did it completely pro-se (including not paying a "service" to fill out our forms), and that we had everything filed already including our statement of intention on our one secured debt. Sitting in the court before hand for 2-3 people, most of them were deficient on items (including one who didn't turn in the financial statements) and they all had lawyers lol.

Oh well. It went great, thank you all, now to wait for someone to yell "OBJECTION!"

Good job! Glad to hear that it went so well for you! Now all you have to do is wait... right? Sometimes that makes me feel so envious of you who filed ch 7.

        Congradulations JB!

It's good to hear your talk of it. I have my meeting 6/3. Much as I didn't want to let this worry me (afterall what is there to worry about?) I do feel anxious. I know I've done nearly everything correctly.

I can't imagine what getting a lawyer would have mattered. I think, the worry factor is foremost. But you can't bank on them-- you know your own situation better; and most importantly are willing to look at it. They bill at what the rate of $200 to $400 per hour. I still think a lawyer would have alleviated a lot of my stress.

The US Trustee assigned to me wrote to me with a "courtesy notice" that they needed my latest tax return. I send it to them a bit late. Curiously, she also asked for my latest state return. I didn't file the return because I didn't owe anything. I sent her the documentation relating to this.

I think you said JB not to stress. And I appreciate that. I think maybe I've linked other projects to this BK deal, such as file clean-up- tax clean-up, and so now I am overly concerned. I need to calm down. Thanks for your communication.

Do they usually ask for State returns. I thought they required Federal returns. Is it unusual for them to ask for State returns also? Just curious.

They look at State returns to see if there is any money being refunded due to overwithholding. They don't ask for State returns in Florida, because we don't have a personal income tax.

You've done well grasshopper. Good job. I can't imagine myself having filed pro-se and really admire those of you that do it successfully.

And I love a happy ending...think you're going to have one.

                      Hi Guys and Gals,

I am just home from 341a. I am thrilled.

It went exactly as I expected. I expected nothing. I got nothing. I met a couple of lawyers. I was told again by one lawyer that I was really lucky to get my 'alleged' Trustee'. She is apparently not a Trustee, but instead a very kind person.

It all went by the book.

I sat amused by the questioning of other people.

I took notes for the sake of you people. This "mock" trustee had two questionaries. I will inform you of them. [If I could scan them it would be good.] She knows her show. [Having been working for the Census, I have an idea of how these beauocrats work. She was simply doing her job.I know about all the privacy notices, etc. that need to be added. ]

For maybe a candid camera thing, I asked about 6 people, how can I get back to Santa Monica. Where exactly do I catch the bus --the number 10 express bus back home. I probably got 6 different answers. But I will add this: It makes me laugh too hard. All these people looking at the stupid Santa Monica bus route. [But wait, we're on Figeroa, I need to be on Wilshire and 6th, heading West. Do you have any idea where I can catch the bus? ]

I'm home now, and I will stop laughing for a second. And of course thank you all. I will read this thread again.

It is exactly what I expected. gf

Glad to hear it all went smoothly for you! So you don't have to make any changes or anything? Good for you!

I found the bus schedule easier to figure out in Europe than it was in California lol.

                            Tiger,

You always make me laugh too hard.

                            I've been sleeping all day.

In the end, I decided to screw all the details. Just go there. Screw it. They were only minor details in my mind. Just things I wanted to finish up.

I really didn't need a lawyer. And in the end you can get all the legal advice you want by just showing up and listening in on what the lawyers are telling the other folks sitting outside the room. [Say, "yes" "no".. ]

By the time I was called, I just wanted the job to go really fast-- "yes" "no" "no" yes, yes again.

                            There were no pertinent questions.

Oh yes, I think I did foolishly say "Why do the pro se filers have to go last?"

Maybe Pro Se filers go last because there could be medical/psychological liability on the part of a trustee who contributes to the low self esteem issues of attorneys who show up unprepared.

Or maybe they like to "save the best for last".

I also had to go last and then I was "first!"
