Well, I put in a Motion for Voluntary Dismissal because of an imperfected lien on my car with my Dad, and the trustee wants to sue my Dad for the outstanding lien on the car. $4700. The trustee called me today and said if I withdraw my Motion to Dismiss without prejudice, then he will settle for $3800. I filed pro se, and I want to dismiss so I can file with an attorney. Think I should move forward or settle with the trustee?

Hi Guys,
Thanks very much for the input. Guess I'll have to get this PACER thing. I'm just so happy to have the thing filed. I'm actually ecstatic. I got very worried about that SS # thing. I really can't even yet think of the next step. Though I did mark Thurs. June 3 ; 1:30pm as the meeting.
Do NOTE: I learned-- you can NEVER, EVER, EVER get a new SS# unless you make one up. This is from neighborhood hearsay; but I have no reason to doubt it.
I have more work to do before then.
Thank you Moonshine? for telling me. I'll be back on this like real soon.
And forgot. I don't know how to get onto to PACER. I can search it before bothering you. Also, I have no credit cards to speak of, and apparently no debit cards either (none that I'm using). How does one do this stuff. I actually closed one bank account and opened two others to avoid this exact situation.

I'm not sure how to copy and paste. My last message was not informed by your more recent updates, which I'm reading now.
Yeah, I had a motion to dismiss because the staff at the trustee's office forgot to mark off check boxes that documents I had sent in were actually received. Soooo annoying. They will hit a pro se person with all kinds of deficiencies and nit pick you to death, but they don't seem to be held to the same standards of accuracy and competency.
Tiger, this was exactly my only reason for wanting a lawyer. I thought they would be less likely to attack. [I may be subject to attack.]
But, now I can add some other reasons. E.g. not filing with outdated forms, or worrying that your SS # has been disclosed.
Even in such a simple case as mine it is stressing. gf

I think, although I am not positive that the Social Security Administration used to have some sort of a program for victims of identity theft whereby they would actually issue you a new social security number. I don't know if it really did or even still exists, but it is my understanding that it was no easy process to go through anyway and probably not worth the trouble. I never really looked into it except as a passing curiosity.

Registering and receiving a Pacer account does not require a credit or debit card. They will bill quarterly and you can send them a check or money order. At only 8 cents per page, it's a bargain.
A new S/S number is only issued in very particular cases. ID theft, life-threatening domestic violence, religious reason due to certain number (666), etc. And you have to have oodles of documentation, ie: police reports, bank stmts, etc. Not an easy task.
Beautiful day? Go out and enjoy it. YYYYES! Its the weekend!
