I didn't have to be at court, because the judge signed my confirmation order yesterday or the day before, but I went anyway. I got there way early. Court didn't start til 9:30, but I had marked 9:00 in my planner and I think I was there a few minutes earlier than that. There was only one other attorney there when I arrived.
When the Trustee arrived he introduced himself to me. At that moment I was the only female in the court room besides his own assistant and another attorney with whom I am sure he was already acquainted. So I guess, to him, I was obviously me.
The other attorneys had arrived and already done their announcements when he arrived. He arrived with much fanfare and an entourage. And luggage! There were over 200 cases on the docket for the day. I was #41. But really I was first. lol.
When Mr. T went up to make his announcements he announced my case first and told everybody I was the first and only Pro Se Chapter 13 he had confirmed this side of the Trinity. lol. That was kind of neat. They made a joke about the Debtor's Bar. Apparently I was the only one who passed? lol.
It was pretty funny how the other attorneys attitudes toward me changed when they learned I was just a pro se filer. Up until they knew who I was, they seemed curious about me being in there, especially when Mr. T came straight up and shook my hand, but after he told everybody who I was, they ignored me like a little dust bunny.
The only other Pro Se filers today got their case dismissed without prejudice. They had shown up to their 341 without identification. Then they failed to show up at all when their 341 was rescheduled. They were present in court today, but they had written a letter to the judge requesting that their case be dismissed so that that they could retain an attorney. He did make a comment about the letter not being in the form of a motion he could rule upon, but he told them he would dismiss without prejudice so they can refile with representation, but ONLY if they refile WITH representation.
The judge is really very nice. And he seems so young! He seemed to trend toward the generous side issuing continuances instead of dismissals. That was just my impression. Of course, I didn't hear any cases that got his ire up, so maybe he's not so nice if somebody gets on his bad side.
Apparently all the fun cases with objections were in the afternoon, but I couldn't stay that long. I was so hungry, my stomach was growling and I was afraid the judge could hear it. So I only stayed until the first break. Also, I was already parked for 2 hours in a 90 minute parking zone, so I needed to move my car anyway. Fortunately I did not get a ticket.
I do, however, have a copy of the docket, with notes about the day's proceedings, so I can look up some cases that look interesting on PACER.
