    Redacting

OK, I guess you can tell all my paperwork is done in draft form, and I'm starting to type the forms for filing next week. I know I'm supposed to redact all but the last 4 digits of my SSN, but for credit card and other account numbers, the examples in the NOLO book have the full account number. Do I need to list it that way, or can I treat it the same as my SSN?

    Thanks in advance!
Filed Chapter 7 pro se: 1/12/10 341 held: 2/16/10 Discharged and Closed: 4/20/10
Stopped Mortgage Pymts: 5/1/10 Moving to Rental: 7/2/10. Hoping Wells Fargo forecloses in 6 months tops

If the Nolo book is up to date, does it not show the redacted SS? Do it the way the book goes.

Suggestion, if you have a PACER account, go on and find a similar case in your district and look at their forms. Make sure it is current. The first two numbers are the year and I'm sure you know that.

Good question though and I've not seen that before. 'Hub

Thanks Hub! The NOLO book does show the SSN redacted...it's just on a couple schedules, it shows full credit card account numbers and such. I was just wondering if it's OK to use the last 4 digits of those account numbers in the same way the SSN is redacted.

edit to add: Of course, I'm wondering why I'm getting all paranoid about putting CC account numbers in full -- it's not like they're going to be valid once all this is over!!

You can redact the account numbers down to the last four digits. I actually had "most" of mine redacted, but many of my accounts went through full monty.

This is the Bankruptcy Court says about it...

Financial account numbers. If financial account numbers are relevant, only the last four digits of these numbers should be used. On Schedules D, E, and F of Official Bankruptcy Form 6, debtors, if they so choose, may include their full account numbers to assist the trustee and creditors.

In other words, if you're keeping the account open, like a checking or savings account or other brokerage, 401(k), IRA, etc... DO NOT SHOW THE FULL NUMBER, since these are public records. This comes from the Federal Rules of Bankruptcy Procedure Rule 9037 on Privacy. Use the last 4 digits of the financial account number.

JB is right. Fed.R.Bk.P. 9037 is the applicable rule:

Pay no attention to anything I post. I graduated last in my class from a fly-by-night law school that no longer exists; I never studied or went to class; and I only post on internet forums when I'm too drunk to crawl away from the computer.
