Hello everyone,
I have received my pre-filing certificate for credit counseling and am ready to get the ball rolling for filling a Chapter 7 Pro Se petition in Nevada. According to the research I've done so far, it seems my process should be fairly straightforward (no-asset), though I am still looking for advice wherever I can get some, and I'm glad I found a place like this on the net. I'm also trying to find lawyers around my area who may give me free consultations as well. The last 2 paragraphs explain what I have in scope so far if you want to read that first. If not, the next 2 paragraphs is where I'm looking for some advice.
I have been unemployed from December '08, moved back in with my parents in February of this year and finally got another job in June. I got approved for a 15 month apartment lease along with my girlfriend and her brother, and our move-in date is set for October 10. I estimated how our expenses are going to be with mine and her brother's income once we move in. Would I be able to put these expenses in Schedule J or not since they're considered future and not current expenses? Should I wait until after we move in to file or it won't matter much? Because I just started a contract for an apartment lease, I will also need to list that in Schedule G as an unexpired lease correct?
To summarize what I want to achieve with filing Chapter 7, I want to be able to live out on my own with minimal support from my parents (basically just car insurance), and just paying off my car loan and my portion of rent, utilities, groceries, etc. while at the same time building up a budget for periodic expenses and emergencies since I will no longer need to pay the other debts that I owe.
I have a total of 9 debt accounts that I am liable for: 2 credit cards, 1 store credit card, 1 charge account (Bill Me Later), 1 collection account for my previous cellphone service, 1 personal loan, and the last 3 with a credit union that i still have an open account with. With the 3 credit union debts, 1 is a car loan that I want to continue paying off, but the other 2 are for a personal line of credit and the deficient balance of a repossessed car that has already been sold at an auction.
I can claim the car I still want to pay off as exempt property since according to Nevada exemptions the current value of it is less than $15000, and the other rather inexpensive property that does belong to me is also less than the $12000, $5000, and $1000 that was listed for household items, books, and other personal property respectively.
