    Preping for BK

OK, I'm trying to get all my ducks in a row before I file-planning anyway-next year. hopefully in April. I am cutting down to NO overtime. I'm concerned about the means test.

I started another bank account in a different bank and will put my auto deposit from work there in the next few weeks. I pay my bills on line via BOA and will con't to do so but move my money from the new bank to BOA for amounts I send. I have joint account-with hubby-in BOA and he has auto deposit of his SS check.

I'm starting to save cash at home and, after reading some suggestions today, will prepay some utility bills, or just keep that money at home to pay it. I do have some repairs that could be make to our car.

I will only pay the minimum due on my credit cards. I just hope to keep them at bay so they won't call.

We have timeshares we are still paying on and will stop paying them. Am still concerned about our paid for home in TX-we live in GA, and have since '07, and what the BK will do with it.

I would like to go Ch 7, but will settle for a 13, if unavoidable. How does that sound for a start. Does anyone have any more suggestions? Any and all will be most welcome.

Hi, you seem to have a good start on things and have some some reading here. All good stuff, You may want to search and read about Google Voice and then set it up, it will be a godsend as far as anyone calling once you stop making payments all together.

If you are planning on filing in April then I would probably stop paying on all credit cards about 6 to 8 months out. No sense in throwing away money if you are filing anyway.

If you have not done so already start researching attorneys, start setting up your free consults maybe 6 months out to get a handle on any questions you may have.

Create your timeline on paper, it gives you a visual and keeps you on track. Each step is progress as you move towards a fresh start and a cash basis existence. Good luck!

Thank you, thank you for that wonderful advise. I have been so keyed up over making this decision I have insomnia-something I rarely get. I took a sleeping pill last night and it didn't even phase me. I will keep looking, will write the time line, and, if others have advise, please do not hesitate to give it. I'm sure others will benefit, like I benefit from their questions and advise given. But, I absolutely and clueless when it comes to electronics and do not even know what Google Voice is.

Google Voice can be searched here on these forums. It is something you can setup on your home phone so that you can change your phone information with your creditors ahead of time (just go into your accounts and change your contact info on your credit cards for example) or you can have all of your calls coming into your home (or cell if that is what you have as a main number) go into a google voice number onto your computer (its easy to setup many of us have done it with no issues). The caller does not know and you do not have to hear all the creditors calling but have a record of the calls. It makes life in bankruptcy so much easier (no calls on the answering machine) and you control what you listen to.

That is what filing bankruptcy is about ultimately, taking back control of your life financially and no longer being a slave to your credit score or the banks (any creditor). Once you start (and you should start now before filing) using cash to purchase what you need or want you experience a freedom like you have never felt before. You have an emergency account with cash in it, you create a lifestyle that you control not a lifestyle that controls you. I am already Christmas shopping and using only cash of course, should be complete by the end of September, no bills in January from Christmas. Saved for 8 months for a big vacation we took in March, all cash, hotels, entertain, transportation etc., one of the best vacations (and well earned the first after chp 7 a year and a half ago) we ever had. You will be hooked and the stress you once had everyday regarding finances will be no longer.
