        27. I felt that I was pretty young to have dug myself such a deep hole, but the past year taught me that I can live without the use of credit cards and live within my means. It's been a very hard and embarrassing process, but I'm glad for it.

44, rather have filed at this point than when i was young. If you are filing at 19 and 20 chances are much, much greater that you will file again. It has alot to do with attitude about finances. You are legally bound now to answer yes for the next 20 years when asked "have you ever filed Bankruptcy". Forget about the Credit Report, a Title Company is concerned with Court Records. In your late 30's and 40's you overcome the BK fairly rapidly because you have previously established records. Hell, I just got a zero percent above prime HELOC with no closing cost two years after discharge. 20 years ago I couldn't do that with EXCELLENT credit.

I filed because of a failed side business. At 25 I was very solvent, owned a home and paid cash for a new car, had very little credit debt, I think about 1100.00.

I'm sorry but I couldn't imagine accruing that much debt at an early age. Now that's not a judgement, I know that today they make it to easy to do, especially given the high cost of education and the EARLY age that my kids have gotten offers. It was much harder to establish credit years ago. When you got a SEARS card you had arrived, creditwise. You could actually get turned away from financing a car then, or furniture.

That all being said, if you stay away from excess CC debt and get your first home things will rapidly improve, especially with time on the job.

42, and old man, but not really. Still have the ability to make a come back, and hopefully filed young enough to still have something in retirement. (Yep, my 401 k has survived bk) It is a matter of making the most of the next 15 years (or 10 years, ain't going to have crap the next 5)

I had just turned 26 when I filed, I'm 3 months shy of 28 now, I'll be finished with BK right after I turn 29.

              My God I can't wait.
