I did not go bankrupt... my ex-wife did. She is trying to put me in bankruptcy by increasing my alimony. Sorry to hear that you had to file bankruptcy.

Yeah, we're all fairly poor, about to be poor, afraid of being poor, or remembering being poor around here.

I didn't know women still were being awarded alimony, much less having it increase! Shades of How The Other Half Lives!
Hope your dispute doesn't result in your going bk, and just in case, don't charge up your cards ;)

I know what you mean no vacations or toys. We rejoiced when we found a rug at Lowes that we desperately needed for 40.00 ( I thought it was 60.00 till hubby informed he talked them down to 40.00 it was on the markdown items)

Alimony? It has not gone away here in Florida. Yes it is permanent alimony. It is not alimony that terminates when you retire it terminates when you die. There are cases here in Florida that people were married 11 years (even less) and the spouse got permanent alimony and the person was paying for 36+years. I know one case like that where the guy finally retired around 67 and she took him back to court and fought him to keep paying even though she had a million dollars saved and he was only living on social security. I believe a lot of other states are better at not awarding permanent alimony but IMHO Florida is the worst! You are threatened and/or put in jail if you lose your job, can't afford to pay, etc. I was threatened with jail time when I could not come up with the money to pay my ex-wife's attorney. I ended up borrowing money, later they wanted more so I was allowed to pay it off in installments in the mean time my ex-wife was working making good money. She never told the court that she was working (she quit immediately after the filing of the divorce papers) so I got slapped with a nice big alimony payment that I could not afford.

What it seems to me from all the credit card debt that she has that she probably charged up her credit cards, returned the items for cash and pocketed the money. I won't know the full extent of the fraud until the end of the month after I review the information.

That woman sounds like a real b-itch. I gave my ex alimony willingly as I wanted to get out. However, two caveats were specified. That was if she remarried, or died. The second one was not necessary but I did not want to pay an estate.

There is a "no fault" divorce here in FL. She didn't go for it? Who sued who for the divorce. You should have stayed with her just to make her miserable. It would be cheaper.

This seems to be vindictive action on her part. This could be brought up at trial. Also if she is independently wealthy you can get alimony lowered or removed, with the right lawyer. Depose her and subpena her financial records and income tax. I'm sure you know to do these things. 'Hub
If I knew it all, would I be here?? Hang in there = Retained attorney 8-06, Filed 12-28-07, Discharge 8-13-08, Finally CLOSED 11-3-09, 3-31-10 AP Dismissed, Informed by incompetent lawyer of CLOSED status, October 14, 2010.
