I guess I didn't explain myself very well. I understand completely where Pandora and tobee are coming from. I had similar thoughts when the attorney first mentioned it. No other lawyers had mentioned an income analysis but none did such a thorough job during the initial consult. Our total retainer fee is $880. We have paid $200 and now owe $680 for the rest of the retainer fee. With the redemption on our older vehicle, other factors, filing fee, and remaining attorney fees we are being charged $1,700. The attorney broke down the fees during the consult. As LIR stated, we are assured that we truly do qualify for a Chapter 7. If we would have had to file for a Chapter 13, then we would have known the payment amount.
I appreciate the advice and concern. I don't know what I would do without the people on this forum! As we all know, this is a confusing and emotional process. I did take the time to research the attorney we chose, even with the local bar association. We can't afford to throw away $200. To us, it wasn't a hidden or additional cost. It was clearly outlined. Even if we had to pay an additional $200, it's worth it to us to be out of this mess. So grateful for you guys!
