So i've been reading here some people concerned about their bank accounts being frozen or closed.. I have a checking account with TD Bank and a account at work with a credit union thats owned by the same company and the branch is in the same building i work in .. Under what circumstances would they close my account.. theres not really anything in that account I get 25 dollars transferred here bi weekly but I use it for gas. Would they know about the BK? Would they close my account? I didn't want my employer to know about me BK.. :-(

I have two TD Bank accounts and a Webster bank account, no problems with either of them. If you listed them as a creditor, say you have a loan with them i.e. car loan, personal loan, mortgage than they would no doubt freeze your account. Otherwise all you are submitting are your bank statements the banks would not be notified. Your employer also does not need to know unless you or someone else tells them. I work for attorney's but none of them do BK so I went elsewhere. I get all of the court notices/mail and nothing ever came, there's no need for them to know.

Thanks for the response.... How do you feel about td bank??? I live in New York, and it is convenient the drive threw and it being open on sundays are a plus.. also the instant debit card if you loose it. But I'm torn about it, I have direct deposits coming that total about 2200 bucks a month, and still have to pay a monthly fee. Also their ATMs are not popular around here.. Considering switching to Bank of America.. do you think thats something I should wait until after the bk to do?Retained Atty 4/2/12 - Filed 4/24/12 - 341 Meeting 5/23/12 - 7/30/12 It's all over

I don't have any problems with TD Bank and I'm in Connecticut. There is no fee if you keep a $100 a month in the account. Other than credit unions I don't know of any bank without fees. Maybe someone else can chime in about that. I don't think I'd go with BOA, I've heard too many bad things about them. If you do close your account and open another one you will have to disclose that as it's one of the questions asked. The main thing is to make sure wherever you open an account that you don't owe them any money and that includes any overdraft fees that haven't been paid.

Hi, there are plenty of banks out there where if you have a direct deposit going into it monthly there is no monthly fee. If you change your bank account to another bank just make sure it is not one where you have an account that is listed on the creditor matrix (is: make sure you do not have a car loan or CC with BOA if you choose to open a checking acct with them). There are certain banks that are well known for freezing your accounts if you have other accounts with them and file chp 7. Just do your homework! Good Luck!
