Employment question before & after filing Ch 7

    Hi,

We are anxiously waiting to file Ch 7, probably in mid June. We waited as my husband's VA stipend for education will end in May as he will not be taking enough hours after this semester.

I am going to grad school for a nurse practitioner. I will graduate in 5/2013. Right now, I work as a staff nurse - 24 hours per week and go to school full-time. Long story short - I would like to be able to pick up extra hours thru a nursing agency, and/or a home health care agency on an "as needed" basis. I don't want to throw us into a Ch 13 by picking up extra before we file, but if I am able to pick up after mid June (when we would file) for a few weeks while I am out of school that would be a great help! I am also looking at cutting back or going "as needed" where I work now and just try and pick up between the 3 places for more flexibility for when I start my clinicals this fall & next spring (clinicals will be 16-32 hours per week).

So, does this sound like something that will cause ?'s or problems for us? I don't want to jeopardize anything since we have waited since December to file, but it would be nice to be able to pick up extra if available. Chances are once clinicals start, it may be hard to work my 24 hours.

    Hope this makes some sense.

Thanks for any input & ideas!

can you wait until after june??? you really don't want anything to change on your DMI...

also, anyway possible to get a private job?? (i can sure use you have been a care taker for a cancer patient and now he decided to have a heart attack on easter sunday! bad patient !!! although that turned out to be a blessing in disguise)..sorry i have kept our personal battles private, but when it comes to you GREAT nurses and the struggles their families have incurred my heart just cries because i don't know what we could or would do without you. as a matter of fact i could use you this morning to figure out this new iv pump i have to put in is port and i'm a bit confused...but i'll figure it out..he hopes LOL!

i hired someone here in the neighborhood to lend a hand to me here and there, however, their family is under strict financial guidelines and can only make X amount. well, i need the help and they need the money so it works perfectly. i'm NOT saying to do anything not legal until june, but it's just a thought to get a bit of extra income.

Thanks for answering. Sometimes I feel funny when no one responds to my questions.

I am sorry you are going through all of that. I am an oncology nurse, and had been in cardiac care years ago. Thank you for the kind words about nurses.

I don't think I would do anything privately, as I would not want to jeopardize my license. I will probably wait until June to do anything extra - although depending upon some things that may happen at my current job, I may end up just switching from my job to one of these.

My question is tho' if I do start working extra AFTER we file - does that jeopardize things? I have read that people can win the lottery, etc after and it not affect anything, but like you said I do not want to mess anything up as we have come this far already.

      Thanks again, and (((hugs)))!

since the 341 is a snapshot which is used and it's then that usually the trustee asks if your employment situation has changed and it didn't...then you aren't lying!

if it's after you file but not discharged or closed my only concern would be to make certain you are not an asset case and you are not in jeopardy of being revisited for any reasons. although, would that money really put you that much over, after all this is only speculation of possible income in the future. nor of course don't do anything that could jeopardize your license!!

thanks for your well wishes, and i know since the type of nursing you do, you understand exactly what we face daily. well, i'm sorry, also about what we have to go through, however, one day at a time is all we are doing.

i'm sure it will work all out.

So probably after the 341 if I do pick up probably would be OK then? The 341 would probably be no later than August?

i would see how it goes at your 341. again, you don't wan to put anything or your position in a situation where they will begin to scrutinized your petition. do be perfectly safe, you can wait until the news comes out on pacer that there is a no asset case, usually a few days after your 341???
