    My Daughter was a.......

authorized user on two of our cc she did not run up the debt she always paid what she charged. She is away at college so that's why we gave her a cc. I have taken her off the accounts as soon as I knew we would be filing bk how will this affect her and if it does should we tell her

If she was just an authorized user it will not affect her. If she was a joint owner on the account it will.

I was an authorized user on my hubby's card (we failed to remove each other prior to filing) and it shows as derogatory on each of our CB reports. We do live in a community property state (that may change things).

If she is off the card before you file - it shouldn't be any mark on her credit report (other than she will have lost a few points for account age and available credit).

And if she finds out? You have an honest talk with her about money. It is what it is.

        Good luck!

We put our son on 2 of our cards as an authorized user when he was in college.... fast forward 5+ years and we filed BK, totally forgetting about him being on the cards. Just before our discharge, he tried to purchase a new car and his credit scores were trashed because of this. Disputed with card companies and CB as not his debt and it was removed and his scores went back up to pre-filing figures. It is more difficult to remove the authorized users after you have filed, so better to take care of it beforehand.

This is very new info for me! Sorry to have given bad information but I was always under the [wrong] impression about this.

That's what's so great about this forum... the collective knowledge is amazing! This is something I will keep in mind for future reference.

Did you have to provide the creditor with your daughters DOB and SSN in order for her to be issued the authorized user card? Some creditors do not require this information and will prevent the authorized user from being affected by BK.
