I have no intention of telling my parents or any other relatives what is going on. Not that they would judge me, but they're worry worts and would immediately believe that our (me, my wife, and daughter) lives would be over as a result of BK, etc...I don't feel like going through the drama and explaining things to them. Same with friends and co-workers-some would likely judge, but only because they don't understand BK and have the same warped ideas about credit that I once had. In any event, has anyone just attempted to explain away creditor calls to family and friends as identity theft (ie: someone stole your identity, got a bunch of cards, charged them up, and left you with the bill)? It seems to happen all the time these days and would be plausible? I know that a lot of folks stress over others finding out/knowing that they're going through BK and/or just not paying their creditors. Seems like an easy way to placate nosy Nancies
      Sounds good to me.

You must have some special relationship with your boss because my boss would certainly tell me that they don't need me anymore then.
I did have a great relationship. I was one of the last salespersons they would have wanted to lose. When one is valuable to the organization it's illogical to think the company will let you go because you need to manage your income for a few months. I'm sorry you think you lack such value to your boss.
Well, I did. Every one of 'em. Mostly I remember the last one. The wild finish. A guy standing on a station platform in the rain with a comical look in his face because his insides have been kicked out. -Rick

OhioFiler: It is wonderful that you are so valued in todays economy at your workplace. Cherish that feeling! I do not think it is a case where the poster thinks less of themselves but like so many of us in the workplace we are all too aware that business decisions to let go of great employees happen every day. Why give them any more info to use against us in the long run. I think by your post you are even aware that if your sales slack off it could cause issues for you on the job or you would not have felt compelled to let your boss know, so obviously your numbers are your value not your great relationship with your boss. Have an off month and you become just like everyone else in the office. That's all. The best of luck to you!

People with exceptional sales skills are in demand everywhere. I've never worried about a job regardless of the economy. The poster I responded to seemed to indicate she was easily replaceable. I couldn't live thinking like that. I suppose one needs a healthy ego to succeed in sales.

Let's just say that one of my parents is of the belief that your ability to pay all your debts is equal to your worth as a person. Consequently, we haven't spoken in quite a while and our kids will grow up not knowing one of their grandparents.
Standard disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer. I am an idiot. Do not take my advice. I am not responsible for what happens if you blindly follow an idiot's advice. Blah blah and more legal stuff.

I didn't indicate I was easily replaceable. I merely stated that if I told my boss I wasn't going to be working very hard for him the next couple of months because I was filing bankruptcy that I certainly would be replaced, as would 99.9% would be. I would tend to think that a boss that keeps an employee after they stated that they weren't going to perform over 100% for them is more desperate than anything else. Obviously your exceptional sales skills aren't worth much if you aren't using them and it doesn't matter how good you are no employer will put up with that for long. You've been incredibley lucky given your healthy ego.

                  It's not luck.

                  Think talent.

OhioFiler, I believe in great talent for sure! I have to ask though, with all this great talent I assume you make great money (from what your saying you are top dog in sales) so why not just beef it up and maybe not have to file BK?

In the BK world we are all on an even playing field, no top dog in this reality. No matter what your talent is (and there are many here with talent) we are all the same here, we are in BK and here posting because of it. Obviously your talent could not prevent you from filing and could not prevent you from getting into financial trouble. Hopefully your talent (or your healthy ego) will not prevent you from learning or taking away something with this experience and using it for your future.
