This is a thread that makes you go

Why do people come here and ask for advice only to ignore the advice that doesn't match their desired result?

Let's be a little more patient with this young person.
He's still trying to get a feel for what is right and wrong. Change comes hard to all of us.
It takes time to wrap your head around the whole BK idea, and a new way of looking at your life. We have seen it over and over again and been far more patient with folks who don't want to give up their fancy homes, expensive schools, or even cigarettes that they couldn't afford. This really isn't any different, just a younger version. Give him a chance.

Time for me to take a nap. I am being cranky. Although, my statement truly wasn't directed *only* at the OP - it was somewhat general in nature.

I am blaming all forum craziness of late on the smell of income tax refund cash that is wafting through the air.

            Ok, patience..here is my advice.

            1. If you still have classes to take in the summer and fall use the student loan money to pay for that. After all, that is what it is for.
            2. You can't afford a motorcycle. Save your tax return for a bankruptcy attorney. After you have discharged your debt and gotten a new start AND figured out how to pay for everything you need to live that is when you should start thinking about money for hobbies.
            3. You are living with your parents so other than the gas to and from work, what expenses do you have?
            4. Forget the spring break trip to Florida, you can't afford it.
            5. Eventually your parents are going to want you to move out. I know this because I'm a parent ;). If you are only making $16,000/annually moving out and having the debt you have is going to make it very tough. Moving out and not having debt is going to be tough too. Hopefully you will be done with school soon and are able to find a job that pays more than $16,000 a year.

It's tough to determine what your options should be without knowing the whole story...what your expenses are, what you bring in and your total debt.

OP, you can probably take up a "hobby" at school. Usually lots of free intramurals, gym equipment, maybe a pool, whatever. Or volunteer your services somewhere, could come in handy for a job later on. You may learn a valuable skill.

It's hard, even for some of us who have been "grown up" for a long time, to start thinking on a more grownup level. I'm still working on it myself. I'm driving a gas guzzling beater myself so I totally get why you want to get another car, and perhaps that is not a bad idea. Can you carpool with anyone? Try hanging up a sign at school? Look on Craigslist?

Keep brainstorming all of your options. BK is a big cannon and not to be entered into lightly. Can you take on another job at off times to increase income? Shovel driveways or whatever? Consider settlement offers?

What really sucks is knowing you are getting 1k from your rental rebate but not getting it until August! LOL. I am so hoping that my car doesn't need any majors repairs until I can get that money. Let's hope the trustee doesn't want it.

Psssh! If my mom had it her way, me, my sisters, our husbands, and all of our children would be living together, under her roof, one big, loud, obnoxious family.

Ack. Just shoot me now. We've done a few family vacations together. More than a couple days is a recipe for disaster.

Put iPad back on eBay... still haven't gotten the tax refund or loan proceeds back yet... for now I'm not going to florida, or buying a car, still not sure on bankruptcy, still hoping for the bike... through this all, I'll be happy if I can have a motorcycle, even if I file...

                                Good for you.
Could be, that if you will ride the bike in all seasons, it will be a better use of your money than the car. Not so sure if that's a good idea in a Michigan winter, but spring will soon be here.
