    Miscellaneous?

I was looking at the Department of Justice website (again).

What sorts of things fall into the "miscellaneous" category?

Almost anything could fall into 'Miscellaneous'. I don't have my paperwork at hand, but I think we placed into our 'Miscellaneous' column, something like: 'Assorted family papers, letters, photographs, and notes.' Some of these letters and notes are more than 100 years old, and are valuable for some of the history in our area, but these are things that you cannot put a price tag on. Also, if our family had been of the 'normal' mind-set, the family papers and letters would have been thrown away long before they came into my possession.

I didn't make my question clear. I was asking about expenses (schedule J). It sounds like you are referring to exemptions. Thanks anyway, though.

I don't think you have to specify what would go under Misc. It could go to supplement the other categories. I think that if you could say what the Misc is then it would go into a different category. Misc is stuff you don't know about specifically. This is all a guess and after I typed it not a very good one! It's for stuff you wouldn't buy on a regular basis. For instance maybe carpet cleaning. It just gives you some leway in case you forget something or it doesn't go in another category. I don't think you can get away with much more than the allowance.

Ok, I just confused myself...on to the next post! LOL It's 6:30am what do you expect.

Things like stamps, minor home repairs/maintenance, gas price fluctuations, new linens, birthday gifts. Basically any expenses that you have that don't fit elsewhere, or that go over the limit of another category.
