    Tax Garnishment Question

So it's my understanding if you have a IRS garnishment, they can pretty much take whatever amount they want. Are state tax garnishments subjected to a certain percentage?

I think it depends on the state...Maryland took 25% of my net pay in a wage garnishment....

State tax garnishments will depend on state law. I figure most state tax garnishments probably adhere to the state's regular garnishment rules. So, unless the state law specifically says the taxing authority can garnish a certain percentage, the state taxing authority probably just garnishes the same as any other regular creditor.

Also, the IRS cannot take "any" amount it wants, there is a calculation

25 percent Pa. They could put a lien on your house. Have a friend that this happened to.
