I was wondering about all the folks that all of a sudden wanted me to 'friend' them on facebook. Kinda figured it was creditors so always turned them in for fraud. I seldom go there as my computer is old and the time it takes to get to my 'page' isn't worth it unless it's family, and I know everyone in my family so just ignored (except to turn them in as frauds) the ones who wanted to friend me.

Glad now that I did that after reading all this.

Maybe I'm too paranoid...I also know that IF there's any creditors/collectors looking for me, they know exactly where to find me...the me I want them to find that is. Yeah Mr. Collector...I MEANT for you to get that forwarding address.
Huge difference between posting here, on an anonymous forum, and posting on facebook, etc. Provided you do not give your personal information out here, you have no problems.

When it comes to facebook, etc., there is no such thing as being too paranoid, for facebook is one of the best tools that debtors use to have themselves found, complete with phone numbers, places of employment, etc.

As to cutting the strings with facebook, the best thing to do is not to ever attach yourself to it. Facebook is not your friend.....

Frogger: Facebook is a jackpot for debt collectors. I can't beleive what some people put on facebook to include my neighbors. When they went on vacation to Hawaii, their teenage daughter put the dates of vacation on facebook, so if anyone want to break into their home, there are the dates that no one would be home. All you had to do is look up their last name in the phone book and find the address. Bingo.

And that's my point. This (or any) forum is only as "anonymous" as you make it. Use a different screen name, don't give out too much personal information (only be as specific as you have to be), etc.
Standard disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer. I am an idiot. Do not take my advice. I am not responsible for what happens if you blindly follow an idiot's advice. Blah blah and more legal stuff.

Agreed. A jackpot for collectors as well as thieves and anyone else that could or could not have your best intentions at heart. Facebook is a dangerous place in which people do stupid things.

There is no advantage in having a Facebook account.

People that have them are seriously uneducated in my opinion.

why tell people your life story? Stay out of the limelight people. Stay under that radar. And the creditors don't have a chance.

thats about the most ignorant statement I've seen yet on this forum

I HAVE A FB account and I am most certainly NOT uneducated in anything, thank you. Do I post my life story? No.. Do I post personal information other than my name? No... Do I post stupid msgs for the world to see? No.... I have a FB acct to keep in touch with my daughter's life / going's on since she lives out of state. Even if she lived IN STATE I'd still have one....

If you dont have kids, then you have no earthly idea why a parent would have a FB account; please refrain from generalizations like that above until you actually know a person.

ETA: as far as creditors trying to find you - it makes no difference if one has a FB account or not - they will find you regardless; the bigger issue is why hide?
