Creditor must have wrong information on account.

We have one last creditor calling us after filing at the end of June.

I called them back this morning and they asked for my social security number and said they weren't calling my account, then I asked if maybe it was my wife's and gave them hers and they she didn't have an account with them but she does. They must have the social security number wrong.

The question is how can we get this rectified? All of our credit cards were listed on our credit report the attorney used for the matrix, we went over it multiple times.

If the creditors information is not correct on account but it is listed in the petition will it still be discharged correctly? Do we need to do anything?

first, if this debt was listed, no one should be calling you at all....and a good idea is really NEVER give our your ss number...they may have had the "wrong" ss numbers...but now they have yours..

also did you carefully check the matrix..i did ours, and it was so incorrect, it was terrible. i had so much to remove and to add, it appeared to be a different document by the time we were done with all the corrections. they ommited many and many were added not just twice but one 5 times. incorrect addresses..etc. your atty can file a correct if the situation is that serious.

i hate these collectors!!!!! if you listed the debt on the petition they are in violation of the stay and you can report them. a nice fine might help them to stop calling you.

also call your atty's office and let them know these people are calling you after your filing date. best of luck to you!!!

Actually, IMO, if a collector has the wrong information about you, you really do need for it to be corrected.

Anyone that thinks that the ssn is not a national id number is sadly mistaken. For the collectors, your ssn # is easy to obtain, and if your name is tied with the wrong ssn, then you could have problems associated with the bad ssn.

Like it or not, believe it or not, the ssn is more important than the name in collections.

I agree with Frogger. I actually found a person with a different name on my credit report, with an account I never had. I am assuming somewhere it was due to the wrong ssn#. Best to correct the number. Alert your attorney!

I was able to narrow down what account it is and called them with the account number they told me the last four of the social are wrong, I told them that they must have it wrong because I know it is correct. I asked them to just take the BK information down and they wouldn't. How can I get them to correct the number?

Quite frankly since they were unwilling to co-operate, I would just call my attorney and ask them to handle it. They shouldn't be calling anyway, attorney should be able to shut them down.

The ss# might be moot due to the BK anyway but just make sure when your discharged that it's accurate on your credit report.

it didn't sound like the OP was exactly certain it was their debt. however, you are very correct with respect to making certain the correct ssn is applied. i also remember a time or two during a title search others were pop up with the same names etc. but there judgments would be put on our information. so, true it must be watched carefully as frogger and sunshinepa point out.

your point about it is in fact a national...and let me add, published number is as you point out...we found our right on google! scary stuff.
