I am an accountant (ironic, huh) and am filing and don't plan on telling my boss or anyone else around where I work. Unless they do periodic credit checks on you they will never know. And unless you are in a position of high power at your current job, I don't feel there should be a reason to let them know. That's just my opnion though. Others might feel differently.

filing BK is our right, so for you to do so is just like anyone else in any other field. Can they let you go from your position? Answer is: it depends. Are you in a right to work state? If so... then they require no "reason" to let you go... they could let you go based on your filing BK, however they wont tell you that because..its against the law. Can they "demote" you from your current position? Maybe... depends on what the sign-on paperwork states when you began to work for them (if applicable).
For the most part however, from what I've seen of people on here... most keep their jobs intact. Its best to be upfront and honest.

There might not be secrets, but like Pandora said, it is your right to file BK and it is also your right to not tell everyone under the sun what you are doing. I'm new here, so I don't know all the ins and outs of BK, but if you have been doing a good job at your current place of employment and have the reviews, etc. to back it up then I don't forsee a problem.
I'm not trying to stir anything up, I'm just seeing it from my point of view and I know that everyone's will be different.

The problem with 'no one knowing', is that when planning your bankruptcy, you may have to go to HR and have Payroll pull six months of pay vouchers to turn in to your attorney. If, as in my case, HR and Payroll were the same person, and most of us worked together in a large room, with only short, flimsy partitions as dividers. When one needed to speak privately to this person, you either huddled in a corner, or both left for another room--with all the other eyes in the room following.
I do have to say that my of loss of my job, was not due to any BK matters, but other factors."To go bravely forward is to invite a miracle."

Our payroll system is all automated, so the paystubs i have to give them i can print myself. We dont get actual stubs, only the online printout. Since i do it myself and hr isnt involved, thy shoudnt know about the bk unless one of my card companies decides to sue, but even then i just send them to my aattorney. I understand your point and apppreciate the feedback.
