I know that my wife and I can survive as well as keep up with our mortgage with my income and her on unemployment for six months. By that time we'll be below the median income and we'll abstain from using the cards during that time. I figure that after utilities, food, fuel, insurance, and general household expenses we'll have about $400 left over every month (our minimums are $950 a month right now and we can barely meet them with her working full time), so at the end of that six month period we'll have accumulated $2400 if we don't spend it. We could probably exempt it because we have no equity in the house or expensive toys to protect, but if not could we use it to fence our yard? I would be doing the work myself and it would just be materials. Would that be considered an acceptable household expense? Also, will we need to document what we spend on groceries, etc...over that period since it's money that could have gone to pay creditors?
