Can a person who has nothing but a little furniture and clothing, no job, no money, and on food stamps, file bankruptcy? In this case, the poor man and his family have lost everything, and he can't work. Is there a way to file bankruptcy as a pauper? What are the filing fees for bankruptcy?
This man was sued as part of the multimillion dollar theft of a real estate project by a group of lawyers and bankers in a conspiracy scam(the one that I have written about on this forum previously. That scam bankrupted at least six individuals, destroyed multiple businesses, and cost, at last count, over 160 jobs).
The man had been acting on his own behalf to defend himself since he had already lost his business, his job and everything he had. He had some serious illnesses, as did his wife, including a serious heart condition. He finally was able to get on Medicaid to have the needed heart surgery. He then got notice that he would have to appear in court two days after the surgery, something that his doctor said he couldn't do. He requested a delay, but was denied. The judge refused to change the date, then issued a large judgment against him, saying that it would be a waste of his time to delay it, that the outcome would be the same if the guy could have been there anyway.
The bottom line of the story is that late last week, the sheriff showed up at his door to seize the poor man and his family's furniture and clothing from their donated apartment. An execution of the judgment has already ruined any job for him in the area, as apparently all realtors and related businesses have been sent "garnishment?" letters in case he works for them or sells a property, making it impossible for him to work in his profession. His medical issues beyond the heart condition make him disabled as well. His wife is also disabled. The only way to save what little he has left is to file bankruptcy to stop the execution of the judgment by Tuesday, May 24, but he doesn't have the $1500 to hire a lawyer to do so.
Since we were forced into bankruptcy by the same corrupt scam, we have nothing left but social security and our furniture, but will be putting together a little to help him. Any advice as to help this poor victim of a corrupt fraudclosure lawyer without a conscience would be appreciated.
