Life for us is so much better.
We haven't had to have the phone on silent in almost 3 years!
We no longer dread the mail and hide when we see someone pulling into the driveway.
Our bills are all on time and paid every month.
We are able to grocery shop, I know seems silly, but for so long we weren't eating healthy b/c it was so expensive.
Our stress level is low & hubby and I no longer fight about who and what to pay/not to pay or what to spend money on.
We have been able to purchase a new vehicle w/ a great warrenty (we put a ton of miles on and really need a good vehicle).
We have been able to go on vacation, not elaborate, but nice all the same, great times.
We are currently shopping for a house, granted it won't be our dream house, but we will be able to afford it safely!!!
We are able to go out to eat or to the movies with friends every once in a while, something we hadn't done in 6 years prior to filing.

Overall, life is so much easier...we still have to watch what we spend & we aren't rich by any means, but by golly, life is GREAT!!

Wow, thanks for all of the support. This forum has been great.

I'm most stressed out about the BOA/FIA Card Services credit card. I received a summons last week and I've explained to the creditor that I just cannot pay right now. Of course, they don't care. We literally cannot afford to have my paycheck garnished or bank accounts frozen. Friday can't get here soon enough. I hope we can get the ball rolling on this quickly. I guess the attorney probably won't start anything until we discuss his fee.

I'm not sure if it's the "right" thing to do, but our lawyer suggested we do this and it worked pretty well. When we had made the final decision to file & made the first payment to our lawyer (before we paid her off) when creditors called, we would tell them we were in the process of filing bankruptcy. We didn't elaborate on where we were in the process, so it wasn't a lie, just that we were in the process. It stopped most of the calls and letters. We took about 2 months to pay off the lawyer, but cutting back on the collection calls was a big relief.

It's a relief, the process at times was tressful, but getting the discharge and closing papers, you really do feel like you just got your 2nd chance....dont blow it, take advantage of it, and move on! it is a great feeling not being in debt, and thankfully bk is an avenue that allows this. Best of luck!!

We met with the paralegal at the attorney's office yesterday. Just talking with her was a huge relief. Our appt with the bk attorney is on Wed AM. We can't wait! We'll find out more on if we can file Ch. 7 or 13. I'm glad we've taken this step, and we've learned some valuable lessons. I'll keep everyone posted! Thanks!
