I was recently hospitalized and a doctor that I frequently see at work (I work at the same hospital) was consulted on my case. I now have a bill from her practice (there are several docs in her practice) that I will need to include in my bk filing. I am just worried that if she sees me at work she may corner me and ask me about the bk or why I am not paying her, etc. Would this be a violation of the automatic stay? I don't even know what I would say, just tell her that I am not discussing the situation w/her? I feel bad b/c she was really nice and is a good doctor, this is just bad timing. I also worry that perhaps she would go telling my co-workers that I filed, but that should be the least of my worries right now.

Whether or not it violates the stay, if she were to tell other employees it would violate HIPAA and probably the hospital's own policies. Doctors are professionals and I doubt she would do such a thing. I'm sure it won't be the first time a bill goes unpaid due to BK. It would also violate the AMA's code of ethics. All good reasons for her to ignore it and maintain her professionalism.A fresh start is a beautiful thing. And I'm not an attorney, just opinionated!
