The purchase transaction fee is paid by the buyer of the card. A $25 Amex gift card with a $3.95 fee costs the buyer $28.95 but gives you $25 to spend. As long as you use it in a timely fashion, there is no problem. I have bought and received these cards and in many instances they are preferable to a store card. When I asked my husband what to get his brother for Christmas, he said cash. His brother is a recovering addict, so I felt an Amex gift card was a safer option because he has to use it in an actual store, but he is not limited to Target or whatever. I was willing to spend a few extra dollars for the convenience of the card. My boss gave me a $50 Chase Visa for Christmas and I thought it was a great gift. I used it to treat myself to a mani/pedi at a local salon of my choice! If he had given me cash, it would have just gone into my wallet and not have been spent on anything special, and if he had given me a store card, I would have been limited in what I could use it for.

Credit card companies are adding more and more fees onto anything and everything. Same with regular banks. Also, the age of free checking will shortly be over.

But you know what Tobee, the surprise is now on them. None of us on this forum will be using CC's and paying interest ever again. I really think this collapse in the economy, banks etc really awakened many people.

For us we did not declare BK7 because we were bad with our credit it was loss of income and medical bills that did us in.
