    USAA bank

    Hi,

It was helpful for me to search the archives of this forum for threads about USAA prior to filing.

As with others, a couple of days after filing bk, USAA shut down my online access with the following message: "According to our records you filed bankruptcy and we cannot collect certain debts. To obtain access to your existing accounts you may log on by clicking proceed below. (2:5706)" Yet it allowed me to proceed to their less robust Mobile site. I have so many products with USAA that I still need access to. I am still able to use their smart phone app to deposit checks and pay bills. And FWIW they never took money from my deposit accounts towards debt that I owed them for HELOC or CCs.

Because I had read here that my online access would be cut off, I had already downloaded all my statements for the previous 2 years in the event that they are requested by the trustee.

you didn't mention if you were filing a chapter 7 or a chapter 13...

in as much as a chapter 7, usually no credit card statements are requested...however, most of the time 6 months of bank statements are required to file.
it was an EXCELLENT idea to be proactive and get any and all information prior to being cut off to any access....just in case you need it. we also had all of our records for at least 2 years on hand...just in "case". however, we didn't need it...thankfully!!

best of luck in your filing!

Thanks tobee. we just filed 7. reaffirming car note with usaa - also have small investment accounts with same bank that should be exempt. Also have all our insurance through them. They are THE best vendor I've ever had (technology and personal customer service). I look forward to being able to have full privileges with them again.

it is really difficult when you have had an excellent relationship with one of your creditors...it was a similar situation with our credit union, whom, we were with for over 30 years...we wanted to surrender our car...they said we were the first!

we just explained we are leaving the state and they have been so good to us for 30 years we can't see how it would be fair for them to have to go 1700 miles to retrieve the car...we had to wait since the credit union isn't a car dealership...they had to locate a "place" for us to drop it off...but it was the right thing for us to do we felt.

i hope you will be able to continue your relationship with them when all is said and done with your bk....for us, since it was a "state" credit union we knew we would never be having another financial relationship with them.

Are you reaffirming because you want to, or because you think you have to? I've read that USAA will let you ride-through. Just wondering.

I am w/ usaa for most everything, or I was prior since I switched everything after. USAA will let things ride through w/out issue. We have a mortgage, HELOC, and 2 car loans. All are riding through w/out reaffirming.

Thanks for the USAA info. Did you keep your insurance through USAA as well (if you had it there to begin with)?

We are BKing 2 CC with USAA but planning to keep 2 cars with them. I am hoping they won't cancel our HO and vehicle insurance.

Until now, I had not put much thought into it. I didn't want any trouble with the note/car. It's a very reasonable note and the vehicle has been modified for our rough rural environment. I am a tad bit upside on it. hmm. More to ponder. SHould be a couple of months until they send the papers to sign.
