It's about time! A bankruptcy on your credit report should not be a barrier to employment. This legislation (in the U.S. House of Representatives) is way overdue, imo. Contact your legislators (see top of page) and ask them to support this bill.

I agree that BK should not be a barrier to employment, however, the problem is that BK is disclosed to an employer not only through a credit report check but through a public records check-this latter is normally used as part of a criminal records check. How exactly do you keep BK from coming up in a public records check, when in itself BK is a public record? The lobby money from the three major credit bureaus and the Chamber of Commerce's around the country has been huge. They have already delayed the bill 14 months - and their strategy is to kill the bill one way or another.
And even if it makes it way out of committee, it has a marginal chance to pass the House, and almost no chance of getting through the 42 block votes of the Republicans (just say NO) in the Senate. And if the Republicans gain control of either or both houses after the November elections, you can kiss any chance of a bill restoring any fairness to bankruptcy filers goodbye for the next six years.

In our state (FL) it is a right to work state. This means, you do not have to join a union to be employed, the employer can, can your arse for any reason except those under law (discrimination, et. al.) and they can freely hire or not hire you even if you look crosseyed to them. So, what is wrong with that? I would as an employer expect no less. Once the workforce statistics get to the point that many folks have bked, it will not be a shameful thing.
To me, bankruptcy was no choice, and a business decision put up on me. I am not ashamed of having gone this route, and nobody should be. No one here (with rare exception) planned their bk. Those who may have committed fraud.
I am proud of my recovery and we are living a much more frugal, but happier life and are taking our "new start" seriously. 'HubIf I knew it all, would I be here??
