My mortgage company paid the last school tax bill, which I was very late on, so I assumed they were taking care of it going forward. (cuz that's what they told me). They were taking payment for it. I told my attorney that my taxes were included in my mortgage. I'm surrendering the house anyway in my BK, but I ain't paying no taxes. The Commissioner of Finance office is threatening with advertising, foreclosure and blah blah blah. I don't have anything to worry about, right? I'm in New York.

I think I found my answer. This, too, shall be eliminated, even though it wasn't listed. I'll speak to my attorney. Also, the mortgage company wouldn't want to lose the house to the state, so I think they'll continue paying the taxes. At least, this is what they told me when they started paying the taxes then started charging me for escrow, which I had wanted in the first place and they told me they didn't do escrow.Filed August 20 341 on September 23 Report of No Distribution - September 24 Case Discharged and Closed on November 23!!!

Many people get confused about received tax statements from the taxing authority. Even though you are in bankruptcy and even though you may have an escrow that allows for your mortgage company to pay the property taxes, they are entitled by law to make you aware of the property taxes.
Whew! So I guess my bank is still "escrowing" my property taxes.Filed August 20 341 on September 23 Report of No Distribution - September 24 Case Discharged and Closed on November 23!!!
