ccsjoe, looks like we are almost on the same schedule. We retained atty 8/12 and will be filing at about the same time. We were forced to stop paying much sooner so we are dealing with many of the more aggressive collectors. They stop being so nice. The first one I told that we had retained an attorney asked me a round of questions. I calmly asked if he wanted atty name and # and he told me that I would have to send them a written, signed release for them to talk to an atty. I asked for his name and fax# and hung up.
This forum has made me laugh when nothing seemed funny lately. Has anyone seen the post about the atty showing up at the 341 mtg with his pants unzipped? LOL

American Express took it better than I thought considering I owe them $29k he just said okay who is your attorney and what’s his address and phone#. I ABSOLUTELY DREAD DREAD DREAD telling Chase they are my largest creditor with a near whopping $79k, yes I said it. I am certainly not proud of that at all; I don’t even want to begin to imagine how that conversation is going to go.

I'm honestly looking forward to the conversation.....am just so ready to get all of this behind me and quit worrying about how I'm going to pay off these bills. The toll and stress it has taken on our family over the past 3-4 years is huge --- ready to be able to breathe a little now.
04/01/10 - Hit rock bottom and knew we were going to have to file for bankruptcy and surrender our home. 12/14/10 - Filed Chapter 7, 02/09/11 - 341 Hearing, 04/14/11 -

I didn't feel bad at all

I begged and pleaded with my creditors to work with me on a repayment plan. All I got was a consistent "NO". They are purely profit motivated and grabbing every dime they can get their hands on. I admitted my debt and worked my ass off trying repay my debt. I humiliated myself and allowed these vultures to harass me and my family. I still admit the debt was mine, but the economy created a huge whole in my finances. I still want to repay my debt. I filed Chapter 13 for that reason. I am making the best honorable attempt I can to repay my debt. The only difference is now, they take what they get from the court and I don't have to beg those blood suckers anymore. Thank God for this forum. This forum made all the difference in my decision making.

My first was nasty so I had no problem telling him, even though I sort of mumbled. My second was stunned and asking me stupid questions, to which I replied "talk to my lawyer." At first, I sort of whispered/mumbled "I filed yesterday." Same emotions here. It's normal. If we could, we would pay, but such is life.
