I filed my Chapter 7 case pro se today, something I crowed over in the pro se section of the forum already.
But it feels so good to have done this myself, and to have done what is probably a very competent job with it in the end (with the help of all of you, and the help of Nolo Press and entities that make bankruptcy rule and filing information available online), that I've been reflecting on the meaning of handling these issues for oneself, like filing a claim in court or using legal software to handle your own Will, your trust, your own taxes and so on.
I find myself thinking that preparing legal documents and doing a legal filing for oneself or standing up in court on one's own behalf is perhaps an important experience to have in life. Maybe, when you get beyond the reasons why you end up being in the position to file bankruptcy, spending the time necessary to learn how to file and to complete your own paperwork for yourself is also about competent functioning in a complex legal society.
That said, hopefully they don't throw out my own filing. :]
