Do you think there will be new BK laws after the economy improves?

You can nose around congress on line and see if there are bills on bankruptcy in committee or introduced. If not it will be a long time coming, methinks. I don't think you'll find many in the BK judicial system that think highly of the way the 2005 changes were enacted, but as you inferred, it's the lobbyists who hold sway on the hearts and minds and campaign funds of our reps. There are a lot of people unhappy with financial institutions so IMO, right now the debtor has the higher ground. But then again, it's congress.

There has been news about adding a law regarding student loans in a bk to be discharged, but nothing has been enforced yet regarding these student loans. I have not read any recent updates about it though. If anyone on this forum has new information about it, hopefully the information will be posted.

Yes, you are right on the student loan thing. I'd read about that sometime back.

Googling, "bankruptcy congress student loan," brought up this congressional web page:
OpenCongress helps you track bills, senators, representatives as well as gain access to hundreds of legal forms and templates.

Last meeting was 4/10. Moving slow?

Apparently they are. They have so much going on, I guess.

I don't think so. Best thing we had going for us was the cram down bill and the banks bought their way out of it. So now we are screwed with a HAMP program that doesn't work.

              A recent article on H.R. 5043:

              http://www.campusprogress.org/articl...e_buried_in_st

After this week both houses of Congress will be on recess until September 13, and the 111th Congress adjourns on October 8, so don't hold your breath. You think enough Republicans will vote for this bill if it makes it to the floor?
