    Drive Bys?

Ok, let me preface this by saying that I could just be paranoid, or on a heightened state of alert. (Of course you know what they say about paranoia: Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they are not out to get you! )

Ever since I filed my Chapter 7, I seem to be noticing people driving by my house and stopping to check it out. I even saw one couple stop and snap a quick photo before speeding away. I live on a small residential street so it is not hard to see that it is definitely my house that is getting the attention. I'd say it was appraisers, but we bought the place almost three years ago. (After we bought it, there was a steady stream of appraisers going by and taking photos for comp sales purposes.)

Has anyone else had this experience after filing?

I'm going with paranoid. At most, the bank could have sent someone out to see if the home was kept in good condition or not (once).
Maybe you should take down the giant inflatable santa in the front yard.

Thanks forgotten--sometimes I think too much. (Of course, most of the time, it is the opposite...)

And as for the Santa, hey, I am just trying to stay festive in these trying times.

Maybe I should put my santa's back up?

Hmm - after reading this thread, I'm thinking I may need to go ahead and put out my halloween decorations!

Do they publish BKs in the paper where you live? It might be someone who wants to invest in forclosures hoping that because you filed you might be getting your house foreclosed on. I hope not. I know when I was going through my mortgage modification a person stopped one day and took several pictures before I could get outside. They were from the bank making sure I was still living there and to check out the condition of my house. The worst was that they pulled into my neighbors driveway to get a picture from the side! I'm just glad the neighbor did not see or get to talk to them since nobody knows yet that I'm going through a modification or a bk.

Or, maybe it really is the Santa.....

Cristo, if they do, I have not been able to find it. Of course, I have not been looking that hard either.

Although I have received a lot of mail from debtor education outfits, I have not received anything regarding a possible forced sale of the house or foreclosure. Since we are current on the payments and will remain so--knock wood--that is really not in the cards.

But if disaster strikes and we are forced into foreclosure--the Santa is certainly NOT part of the deal!

One of the pieces of mail that I received after the mortgage company filed a Lis Pendens said that some lenders will send people out to do "Drive-By's" and add $45 or so, per drive-by, to the homeowner's outstanding mortgage. They are driving by to make sure you are still residing there and that the property has not been abandoned and left empty for vandels to destroy. Of course, this same piece of literature said that was a fleecing practice used by mortgage companies to make even more money if the property owners try to hold on to their property.

If I had to bet, I'd say its the bank checking on occupancy and condition. They pay realtors to do this or others in the industry.

It was blatantly obvious when I started having drive bys. My foreclosure was advertised in the local paper. Suddenly the traffic picked up. Since my home was down a long road I parked my cars in such a way that anyone coming around had to drive the narrow path.
