How can I get a personal loan to buy a car from a private seller?

First off, as a newbie here I really appreciate the wealth of information on BK Forum...it's great!! Thanks to everyone for sharing some very personal information with us all to help us find our way through the BK process.

My question, is it possible to get a personal loan to purchase a vehicle from a private party seller? We have filed for Chap. 7, haven't had our 341 meeting yet. There are 7 of us in my family, so I've been looking at Ford Excursions and have came across some great deals on Craigslist the price range has been $5K to $9K with low miles, etc...I just don't have the funds on hand to make a purchase, I've checked with several credit unions and banks, but it's a no go. Has anyone else here faced a similar situation? What to do, is there any help out there, or do I suck it up and go to plan B or something?

Thanks in advance for any ideas and or suggestions!!

    Best regards,

    B

Most lenders won't deal with you until the bk is discharged. They won't be able to send you monthly stateemnts asking for payment due without violating the automatic stay.

Since the credit unions and banks have said no, your only alternative would be for a family member or friend to loan you the money. Personally I would suck it up and go to plan B (if plan B is to save and pay cash for a vehicle)

Thanks Newbie2, plan B seems to be the best option for sure.
